pavement vs bonneville? clutch at finish line or not.
« on: May 10, 2015, 02:31:59 PM »
have run only on pavement thus far but now looking to go to Bonneville for a shot at record. We run the Ohio  Mile and I don't clutch the car till the chutes open. Seems to make sense with limited distance to stop[. Just wondering if not clutching at Bonneville will upset the car. Four speed car; just wondering what some thoughts are.
I guess with automatic trans with convertor the situation would be different.

It really depends on the car.... If the chute is pulling at the right point,  it shouldn't upset the car either way.  I would do what your doing now if the car is stable.  Some cars get wobbly when you unload the chassis by letting up on the gas before the chute is out in which case its nice to drive through the chute.

Opinions will vary!

Drive into your chute, then lift and clutch...
