We spent the entire day on the flats yesterday searching for a suitable course. We even went around the salduro dike to the eastern most side of the salt and tried dragging toward the silver mountains in a northwesterly direction. Much to our dismay we just could not find salt that will support a race track. It is with combined heavy hearts that we have to announce that the 2015 World of Speed is officially canceled.
We appreciate everyones support and good thoughts on our behalf. We also know this is a big blow to all you competetors that have worked so hard to be ready to run.
We want all of you to know that we will be working hand in hand with Save the Salt, SCTA/BNI, BLM and others that support the cause of trying to preserve the Bonneville Salt Flats for current and future generations to enjoy.

Monte and USFRA,

I am so sorry to hear of the cancellation of your event. I was looking forward to finally getting to the salt this year and seeing my friends.

Best of luck and know that I am available in the future to assist with impound and record certification.

... Much to our dismay we just could not find salt that will support a race track. ....

Thanks Monte and USFRA for making the effort for us.

Could you explain in more detail what you found?  Not enough salt thickness?  Mud on the salt?   Mud between salt layers?  At the present time is this still a result of conditions related to the mud deal or just plain not enough salt regardless of the mud?

Thanks,

Sumner

Monte,

Thank you and all the folks at USFRA for the hard work and dedication you have put in for this event. It is a sad day for all of us out here that have put in so much time and effort to get ready to participate in LRS racing events on the salt.

It's always disappointing but understandable if Mother Nature has her way and causes events to be canceled, I can handle that, it happens.

However, it is quiet a different matter altogether to see a natural wonder systematical destroyed by neglect and mismanaged by the very folks that are charged with protecting it.

Thanks Monte and the USFRA for trying and letting us know as soon as possible.  I guess I don't have to thrash as hard as I was...

Thanks to all for the efforts!

Very much appreciate the updates and further condition info when you get the time.
Big let down to a lot of folks but I have come to think that last year and this year's cancellations may in the long term be good things.
I think they have finally given a wake up call to all those who have been dismissing the racers concerns about salt conditions and finally created conditions for some traction in the general public media.

I think in the long term this will be good for us and the salt.

Thanks also to all the racers and interested observers who continue to blow the warning trumpets and sound the alarm --- keep it up!

Here's a certificate you can use.  Run up in class.  Don't measure.  You're on your own.

Just don't date it 2015 -- we all know that won't work.
