Monte,
With much apprehension I have been watching the weather radar maps for the last several days and last week there appeared to be a pretty major storm that passed over the salt. Have you had anyone out there to see what the condition is in the last several days?

Rex, there was a large storm front that came through the area late afternoon on Friday. It did rain on the salt and left standing water, mostly around the end of the access road.  Hugh and Dennis are scheduled to be on the salt Tuesday and they will call to give an update on the conditions.  We will continue to moniter conditions and let everyone know as soon as we can make a firm decision.

One good sign is that last week before Friday's rain Cook's crew was able to drag a 10 mile course and don't feel that the water from the rain will have much effect on their course and will be back this week to re-prep the course...

... for a private meet on the 17 of this month weather permitting,

Knowledgeable people I talked to on Saturday at the truck stop and the end of the access road had positive comments about the salt conditions if the course dries.  Larry Volk, Jim Burkdoll, Tom Burkland, Russ Ayers, Mike Cook and others were being interviewed.  There was more rain yesterday and likely to have more today in the area.  World of Speed is a month away and the officials who make the decisions are watching the situation daily.  The go-no go decision will be announced on September 1 by USFRA President Dennis Sullivan.  That's three weeks from yesterday so think dry thoughts!

Great breakfast crowd, around 30 people, at the Salt Flats Cafe laughing at the headlines in the Wendover paper, "The Salt is Dry" and criticizing SCTA for cancelling SpeedWeek!  We drove out and took pictures of folks wading in the shallow water.  It was bare salt two days later.

We have the Mickey Thompson 31/10.5 mudders mounted up to bead locks on the Monte, ready for the short course.  Really though, any reliable update as of now or is this thing going to be a wash, would hate to see us have the event with dangerous conditions, what about the access road?  Last year was pretty bad, even spotted the Wendover EMS ambulance stuck up to their bumper in mud, good thing there was not a critical case inside (i hope).

Lets all keep holding out hope but also not be afraid of the reality of the situation which is that we may not be running WOS this year, sooner the better.

Cheers!

Allan

Also, any news on the Buckeye Bullet, did they end up running this week?

Cheers.

Just to update all y'all. On Friday August 28th, Dennis Sullivan, Larry Volk, Hugh Coltharp and myself will be going out to the salt. We will be checking conditions and doing some test dragging to see what kind of track or tracks can be made.  We will be prepared to make a go ahead or cancel decision later that same day. Once the decision has been made we will post here and on our website saltflats.com.

Regarding the current situation on Save the Salt. There are many many things going on right now but nothing has developed enough to make official statements about it all.  I can confirm that there is a meeting being held that includes BLM, Intrepid and several people from Save the Salt. Both the BLM and Intrepid are well aware of the ground swell of concern and in some cases outrage at what is happening to the Bonneville Salt Flats.  It will take the cooperation of all parties involved to make the moves necessary to restore the salt surface into a usable and sustainable landmark.  Some of the topics of discussion will include the possible removal of the Salduro dike, relocating the access road to closely parallel I-80 along with many other proposals.
The statements made in relation to saving the salt are coming from me and do not reflect the official positions of Landracing, BNI, Save the Salt or USFRA et al.

Looks like the flats might be getting a lot of rain in the next few days.  Not looking good for WOS.

It is in fact quite cloudy here in Ogden this morning. Has not started raining yet.
We are still set to go out to the salt on Friday.  At that time we will make a decision about going ahead or not for World of Speed 2015.
Stay tuned....same bat time, same bat channel.
