Here is a Dave Matson video I took in 2004, although I am not the one that uploaded it to YouTube.  You can get some more flavor of the sound, but this is his older "small" motor.

     Bob George   217.9  Bonneville Speedweek 1972   Dual 90" Harley 2990.4cc   #A 18   one way

Above numbers taken from the Dec 1972 issue MOTORCYCLIST magazine, page 55.

Impressed me as a very stout run at the time.  Homemade barrels on cases cast with "HD SPL" where numbers would normally be stamped.

                       Ed

I believe that is the same bike (modified) by Leo Hess that set unfaired pushrod record at El Mirage

Dean, I still have a couple of records. We just think it is not right that a pushrod twin, almost as old as me , should still hold this record. I hope they will move it to vintage class if I ever break it. It is a stout record.

The British will be adding names after the ACU/UKTA Elvington mile event. Wait for the results to be posted.

Anyone know of a 200+ naked speed for Vance Breese?

Or Dave Campos or Dan Kinsey?

Thanks TC, I will search.  (edit - I think Dan Kinsey got up to 192 on Tramp 3 naked, then put on a fairing)

There were a couple additions (so far) after the Elvington meet last week, including the fastest non-Hayabusa, Zef Eisenberg on a turbine bike of his own making.

It was quite an honor to crew for Max Lambky, especially when Vesco and Campos were the pilots. One of my all time favorite records is Campos' 231 MPH APS 3000 Fuel record from the early '70s on his double engined drag bike. I asked him about that one, and he said it was quite a beast to ride on the salt. With this thread, I was wondering if he ever rode it unfaired.

Vance Breese held a SCTA record of 199.954 in AF-1350, set in 1985 on a Harley. I imagine one of his timed miles was over 200- would anyone have a clue where to find this info? Google fails me.

Thanks,
Dean

That was Bob George's double engined shovelhead on 70% nitro with S&S side bowl fuel carbs. That bike used a 4 speed Harley tranny so it was "fragile" to say the least. Leo Hess bought it and ran it later. I have been trying to find out if it made it to 200 unfaired as well. It is one of my favorite bikes on the salt.

Dave also said that his last or one of the last times he rode it at the drags, he beat Clem Johnson's Barn Job, not an easy feat.

Just as a matter of discussion, I notice that about half of the bikes listed are Hayabusas.  I personally wouldn't exactly qualify them as "unfaired."  That would shorten the list.
