One of the most impressive records on this list is Dave Matson's / 1955 Vincent in the M-F class. 210mph. Over the years he's set several records including a MPS-F record of 225. He said he was 'forced' into the vintage class.

I agree. I don't think it's possible for modern folks like me to understand the extent of work and innovation that went in to bikes in that era. Maybe Bill Warner.

Thanks for the pic. That looks like a very early version of Dave's bike. His 2000cc records were set when there was no 1650cc class, and his engine was less than 1650.  Now he has a true 2000cc class sized motor, but I don't know the exact displacement. I hope the extra displacement will get Dave close or over the 250 MPH barrier. When the 1650cc and vintage classes were added, and the records were therefore open, Dave could have set the record on a few occasions at lower speeds compared to his existing records, while sorting out the tweaks to the bike, but since he is still developing the same bike, his own personal choice is to not make the back up run until he can better the speed of his existing records. Kudos to Dave for that choice.

This is reasonably close to how it looked in 1988 when Dave set the 210 MPH unfaired and 225 MPH MPS records.

Over 200 at a LSR venue, no record needed. One way speeds, exit speeds, standing or flying 1 mile, 1.3, 1.5, etc. It's a small list, 62 and counting. Dean

     Bob George   217.9  Bonneville Speedweek 1972   Dual 90" Harley 2990.4cc   #A 18   one way

Above numbers taken from the Dec 1972 issue MOTORCYCLIST magazine, page 55.

Impressed me as a very stout run at the time.  Homemade barrels on cases cast with "HD SPL" where numbers would normally be stamped.

I have been chasing Daves 225 record for three years. Rain, wet track, and mechanical issues have kept me from any good speeds. His front fender, on the naked bike, looks like it would be illegal today. One of these days I will probably take a shot at that 210 naked record!! :-D

As I remember Evelyn Sholtz ran 211 at speedweek Bonneville in 2012  on an A/BG 1000 Suzuki
Popped the rods out of the front of the motor and poked a hole in the turbo on the return run
Brought it back into impound on a trailer and fortunately still had one piston attached to a rod so we could measure it
Got a record at about 192.993

That Vincent sounds fierce! I wonder how a modern plain bearing Japanese engine would tolerate a litte nitromethane. Hmmmm, naked 1000cc record looks a bit soft :)

Grumm, Evelyn is on the list with that pass, Greg Watters clued me in last week. She will pit two passes together and get a hat I bet.

Fred, how many records do you hold? You have to pick on the only guy older than you? 😈
