- Production Motorcycle Question -
« on: May 02, 2015, 12:04:59 PM »
What class would a production turbo motorcycle run in? I mean, aside from cc designation. For example, a 1985 Kawasaki GPZ 750 Turbo. Can it run in the same class as a regular 750, such as a modern GSXR?

Production / Production Blown.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

Looks like 750cc P-PB with a record of 167.272 mph.

Bill is correct and the record is held by a turbo GPz750. Thinking about running the H2 ?      LSL

Too early to say, since I don't have one yet. But, maybe? :-D

I've also always wanted a 750 Turbo (love Kawasaki's!)...but never seen any production turbo's run on asphalt. My two choices for my next vintage machine are CBX and 750 Turbo. And CBX prices are insane.

Asked a few tech people, with no solid answers. Thanks guys!

The P/PB record is open.  All it will take for a record is an H2 ($25,000), entry fees, transport cost, hotel, food etc.  So for about $30,000 you can have a record.

Nortonist 592...better recheck your record list, the SCTA 750cc P-PB record was set by Al Lombardo on a Kawasaki GPZ 750 Turbo in August of 1989 at 167.272 mph. The El Mirage and Wilmington records are open...but not Bonneville.

Warp12...As the Kawasaki GPZ 750 Turbo was not built prior to 1956 it won't qualify for Vintage.

Ha ha, got ya. Honestly, I am not big on open records...or even record-chasing. But I also feel that if you show up to race, and it's open, well...why not get your name on the books, right?

BHR, the new H2 is a 1000...so perhaps that record is open?

Both numbers could be of future interest to me. I got my answer with how the class designations work for blown production machines...which is what I was after.

Some interesting stuff, I am sure, in 650 class. Seca turbo and 650 Honda come to mind. I love modern stuff, but am pretty nostalgic, and a sucker to buy any mint, older bike.  :-D

Why not?  Someone has to be the first to run in a class.  Why not you?  An open record can be a greater challenge than an existing record.  With an exisring record all it takes is .001 over it.  With an open record you have to see how far up you can put it so that your pride doesn't take a beating.

If I remember correctly both of those bikes would be in the 750cc class because their engines exceed 650cc's.

xj650        653cc
xn85         673cc
cx650       674 cc
gpz750      738cc

Are there enough H2r 's produced  to be considered , ( if i had one it would not get salted )
H2 would have no trouble is it somewhere near 2000 sold world wide ?
