Alp Racing & Design Update..
« on: May 01, 2015, 09:54:10 PM »
We're getting ready for El Mirage. I'm prepping the M frame for the 650 A-PF class. The record is 145+mph, it is in the book since 1995!  There is no M class at EM but this bike is fully M -PG compatible at the SCTA and AMA.
The frame is a stock '50 Triumph Thunderbird, the engine is all alloy with a modified unit type head. I will be using AMAL GP Carburettors.

I would prefer to make horsepower, rather than buy, or hya it, regardless of the difficulties involved , as it would then be MINE

Thanks Tiny,

Old Scrambler,
Yes, A class allows me to lower the seat and handlebars but I will maintain the current M class set-up. I wanna shoot for the M-PG and M-PF records at the AMA Bonneville event.
My best on this bike was 131.993mph in November 2013 with a 650 M-VG, same pre/unit combo but with a ironhead and iron barrels.

Picture of 650 M/VG 130.308 mph return run from August 2013

The AMA M-Class allows for the bottom of the hand-grips to be no lower than a horizontal line at the top of the rim................same for the top of the seat at rear rim.

Yeah..............the 145-mph looks so tempting :-)

You're right (thumbs 10" apart as well) and I will keep it M class compatible.
EL Mirage is next week, hopefully it won't rain. I'll keep you posted on the results.

At El Mirage Nov 2014, the little bird went 130.734mph with no fairing but got the record in the 650cc APS-VG class.

I always liked how cosmetically simple your bike is, with a balls to the wall motor.  Very cool stuff.   Good luck at El Mirage!   :-)

First race of the season and first record of 2015 with our stock 1950 Triumph frame!!
We broke the 145.9mph  "Tatro Machine Special" fuel record from 1995 with a speed of 149.279mph. Now we are also the worlds fastest 650cc Fuel bike with a pushrod engine! With no fairing/blower/turbo etc.. "A/PF" class but with a M bike due to El Mirage not having M class.

Plus the record.
what did you do to pick up all that speed? What fuel are you using?

I changed the timing, redesigned/built a new head and used alcohol mixed with some nitro.

Thank you!!

Our other Special Construction "A-VF" bike had gearbox issues, we will give a try on that class record next time. But here is a nice image of our A-VF bike from the SCTA facebook page.

Old Scrambler Thanks,

We have some plans set for August and I already figured out what classes to run at the SCTA Speedweek but I couldn't decide on a class for the AMA Bonneville event. Maybe somebody can suggest a class. We do not want to run in a open class.

For Speedweek I registered for the 650cc A-PF class, according to the rule book the record belongs to Marc Leininger Honda with 134.849 but we will aim for 156.389+mph which is that same bike's APS-PF record.

After we get the record or destroy the engine we will switch to the 650 A-VF class and try to get the 144.531mph RPN Motorsports record.
