This interview with Jim Oberhofer gives some hints about Dixon's frame failure . How much value they plac on chassis flex by not fully triangulating the front of the frame . Had he exceded the standard 125 runs without replacing front tubes where the flexing goes on ?

Sparky, I think you're spot on.
The front seemed to be so well planted.
When the rear shifted it snapped the tubing.

Three things are trying to bend a top fuel chassis upward in the middle . The drag of the high rear wing , the downforce of the rear wing behind the rear tires and the front wing .

The chassis apparently had about 65 runs on it. These guys keep a pretty close eye on things in that area. That's why the chassis are unpainted. They all run a somewhat similar chassis. Sometimes s**t happens.
