Fiberglass Belly Tank & V4F
« on: March 11, 2015, 01:36:32 PM »
Sorry if this question has been answered... new folk to landspeed racing.

I'm building a fiberglass belly tank lakester (p-38 sized) and running a Ford flat 4 cylinder. What class or classes could this potentially run in? I read that the V4F should be "vintage" bodies... but have see several fiberglass bodies.

Thanks!

Dan

dirtydutchmen..this is why you need to obtain a copy of the SCTA rule book before you start buying anything.

Bill

PS..yes the fiberglass body would be legal with the Ford Model A type engine.

Download the B'ville records which should have all of the classes:

(the strange link really IS from scta-bni.org).

A variety of classes available.  For the lakester you have V4F/GL, V4F/FL, V4F/BGL, V4F/BFL. Add fenders and you can run these four engine breaks in the Streamliner classes.
BTW, the B, G and F refer to Blown, Gas and Fuel. The records run from 214 to 123 with many stops in between.

Good luck,

Good luck with building your tank, I see you are from PA, only about 1 1/2 hours from me.  If you want to talk tanks just let me know.

And yet more proof showing that there should be a newbies FAQ some where.

Sounds like a reason for forming a SCTA committee.

JUST NOW while posting I had an idea. Jon can start a Wikipedia type of thread, call it FAQ, and people can post into it and fill it up with these questions.

Will that work?

No, but posting up an online copy of the rulebook would.

But that won't happen.

Not when the SCTA needs the money to print it to cover the cost of assembling it.

$10 spent to cover the cost of not making mistakes that could be made while assembling a five-figure race vehicle sounds like cheap insurance to me.  It fits the pocket well.  It's easy to show in case of disputes.

Does that apply to me and my rotary-dial wallphone? Hmm... shouldn't my use of that phone qualify my lakester for some 'vintage' class?

Thanks for the good conversation! Perhaps a downloadable version of the rule book for a fee would be great too. I'd pay $30 just to have it electronically. If the information is easily available, along with supportive forums, I think there would be much more interest from the younger generations. Especially those that don't have family involved or a history of being involved with the sport like myself.

Newbies will always ask 'newbie' questions... endless cycle. Embrace the interest of a newcomer and you have a lifelong supporter (financial supporter).
