things to do
« on: March 06, 2015, 02:38:53 AM »
Hi all.
This may or may not be the right place to post this. Apologies if it is not.

Dawn and I are heading back out again this year. Does anyone know of any motorcycle or car shows/meets in the Reno area or San Francisco area either side of the BMST  week?

I have had a scout about online but can't really see anything. Although I did find a car museum in Reno which looks like it is worth a visit.

cheers all.
Catch you soon

John (and the boss as well of course).

The National Auto Museum in Reno. I think it is the remainder of Harrah's auto collection.

You will miss Hot august Nights by a month.:D

I had seen Hot August Nights, shame we are going to miss it as that looks brilliant. The car museum looks well worth a visit, it seems to have some pretty interesting stuff in it. Including Douglas Fairbanks Jnr's Phantom Corsair which I would love to see in person.

The museum is great!

And in walking distance from the big downtown hotels/casinos.

The Blackhawk Museum in San Ramon is pretty cool. Not much race stuff but a lot of interesting vehicles.

San Ramon is on the continent side of the SF bay, near Danville and Pleasanton.

There is a little bike museum somewhere around Fresno or Merced that has some interesting stuff.  I forget the details.  Someone on this site might know.

You folks might enjoy the vintage bike races at Miller Motorsports Park; about 90 miles East of Wendover.
There are motels nearby at Lakepoint junction and in Tooele.
This event is Saturday and Sunday, Sept 05 and 06.
Admission seems reasonable.

I know that this isn't MC rated,,,,, BUT I've recommended this to several of my friends visiting from Europe and the UK and it has always received good reviews, and IF your a gear head there's nothing not to like....

Nevada Northern Railway Museum in Ely Nevada http://www.nnry.com/ -- --

Due South of the salt and just a little out of your way heading back to Reno -- -- A great Great place to stop and look at these big machines .. ... and one of the BEST things is that for a donation, They will take you out on their private tracks and let you drive/operate a locomotive/Steam Engine or what ever they have operating that day..... But I'm easily entertained....

P.P.P.P.S.S.S.S. If you continue on down this road towards Vegas, it is the route used for the Silver State race (on my bucket list to run this event), and after looking at a ton of videos of the races on You Tube, it's cool to putt down this road and pull landmarks back out of memory -- -- If you decide to head down this route, Go slow, cause there are a ton of troopers on this road making sure you're not misbehaving.........

Not exactly right . . .

If you continue down "this road" (93) you go thru Caliente and Pioche, which are a sight to see in their own right.  'Specially Pioche, where you can have a drink in the Overland Hotel and see the ore transporter down to the valley.  A little bit longer than the 381(?) you mention, but a great trip in its own right.

Years ago my brother and I spent the night in Caliente and cruised the "Nevada Home for Wayward Girls" (truth!) to no avail.
