Drivers Suit Requirements manufactured date?
« on: March 02, 2015, 10:21:18 PM »
Im wondering if there's a time limit for our driver suits? Example my SFI 20 suit was purchased almost 5 years ago. I know our seat belts and helmets have required dates for replacement or re certification. I don't see such a requirement in the rule book for the drivers suit.  :|
Working in the shop I use the 'F' word a lot. No not that word these words Focus and Finish go Fast and Flathead Ford!

That means take care of it, wash per instructions and you will not enjoy the protection your suit gives you for a long time.

Don't wear it while you overhaul your motor...

Driver suits are good for the effective lifetime of the fabric. As long as it's maintained correctly and still in good shape, it's good with LSR. Drag racers, be jealous

I have the same Deist suit I bought in 1976 and it passes tech. I also have a -20 I bought in 1995 and a -15 in 1998 and I keep the clean and do not hang them on a hanger. They lay flat in a suit case and they are just as good as the day I bought them new. If the SCTA/BNI goes to putting a date limit like belts I'll be outta here. This ain't the NHRA.

I'll also not only agree with not working in them but we not only get them off before the push truck gets down to pick the driver up and just barely get it on before it's time to push off. Standing around in 95 degree weather just to show who the driver is seems pretty arrogant along with being stupid....JMO

My old 1978 Deist suit did not pass tech because of the stitching not being done with Nomex thread. I took it back to Jim Deist and he said "sorry. No Go." It was a 3-2 suit.

Just an aside - I bought mine used and sent it in for a recert and a repair to the elastic leg band.

$75.00 bucks, a certified repair, they threw a few stitches in where I didn't notice an issue, and now I've got a new date on an old suit.

So I guess if it needs a repair, send it to the manufacturer and get the recert as well.  Doesn't hurt anything.
