Joe, neat project.

Why do guys use a seat like that in a lakester?.
You'd be sitting upright but like you said you don't like the cage.

Good luck man. I'm subscribed.

Yeah those guys have done everything wrong but set records.... That's what happens when you don't care what everyone else does and you do what works. They won't win any car shows but you won't take their records by building one that does..... I wonder where that b----- is? Oh never mind........

Those Contrivance guys don't have a clue what they're doing -- running that awkward '23 body!

It's just a coincidence that they hold the AA, A, B, C, D, E/Gas Modified Roadster records at Bonneville.

Looks like we will be laying the seat back and rebuilding the roll structure.

Also going to go with solid mounted axles for now.

Owner likes the looks otherwise so we are keeping the wing and fin but separating it from the body and building a vertical structure to mount it to.

I will start a proper build thread once I get rolling on the project but keep the ideas coming and so will I.

What about the flat bottom VS round bottom thing? I had thoughts of an air dam up front and skirts along the side with a flat panel for the underside.

Air likes round --flat could give you some down with added drag.

i don't know nuthin from nuthin, but i've been told that a flat bottom on a lakester might generate unwanted lift when going sidewise.
TFA's solid suspensioned, FWD drop tank lakester is round-bottomed and it was stable as heck at last WOS when i stupidly dumped the throttle right after the 5 (209mph exit) and it went into a long slide. :-o

If you are asking for opinions on round verses flat - I vote round.

I would also get a solid model made and printed of what you have there to review the effects of the wing/stabilizer you have. You may have (way) more than what you need. There are some simple tests you can run with a 3d printed model and an open car window that will give you positive proof of what you can expect in terms of aerodynamic stability. You can also test size and shape of vertical stabilizers and their effect on the aerodynamic handling characteristics they impart on the design.

Good luck with the build and keep us updated please!

bbarn,
Absolutely BRILLIANT idea for some simple "tests"
Yet another example of those wonderful ideas that look so obvious in retrospect

The original builder was planning a front wing so we will probably just stick with that. The rear wing itself seems decent but the adjust mechanism is bulky and ugly so I will at least be changing that or covering it up.
