Gaming must bring in more money than racing or all those big buildings would be dark or gone :|

Might depend on how you measure "big" total revenue, total one day participation (head count) or total participation for the event.
I suspect the air show and rocketry events also draw some big crowds and certainly the casinos make their money off the shows and gambling.

Read 125 times and only 13 votes? Voting at top of pg. could be missed.

I'm only there at Speed Week but don't know all events, but hard to imagine anything bigger.

"Kerrie Supanich, a spokeswoman for the West Wendover Tourism and Convention Bureau . . . said Speed Week is the second biggest draw for West Wendover after New Year's Eve, which attracts about 50,000 to 60,000 people."

Have you ever heard of this thing called "Google"?

I just can't imagine making a holiday pilgrimage to what is essentially an outlet mall of casinos on a frontage road, surrounded by 59,999 amateur drinkers.

Chris:

I have thought of a lot of places I would like to be New Years Eve but Wendover was never on the list. I am curious now. Perhaps Times Square is just a diversion.

I could imagine a Moët & Chandon toast with Kate at midnight at Land's End.

But a plastic glass of Freixenet on the floor of the Nugget would just be depressing.

Maybe for 1 night, but the rooms couldn't be anymore booked than speedweek and were there longer.
