I always liked Bob and one story sticks in my battered mind. We were at El Mirage late in the season one year and I was standing on the staring line talking to him prior to his run. He was driving the T roadster but it was bright red at the time and had the gold flaming chicken on the hood. Comes his turn and off he goes, big motor, high horsepower, short wheelbase, and quick steering zig zagging down the course almost from cone to cone! He ran 2+ and I went to see him in his pit to ask him about the run. He looked at me with that goofy grin he could do, made an up and down chopping motion with his right hand and said "Straight Arrow!" I told him that if it really was straight arrow his speed would have been near 250! He just shook his head and laughed, but that was Bob. Rest in Peace my friend. We all lost an incredible talent.
