No records set – everything is open!

I presume VBB-3 have set mile and km records in Category A, Group VIII, Class 8 (subject to FIA confirmation ...), but they are going for higher speeds before submitting any formal claim.

Posted 17 minutes ago on the Cook Shootout FB page:

2 passes at mid-day. A few minor problems, but the car is smooth and stable. Partly cloudy skies with bright sun. Zero wind. Track is perfect. Buckeye students are working through some software bugs. Expect to run again about 4 pm. No speeds to announce just yet per team request.

Not nearly as glamorous or dangerous as the beautiful VBBIII, but my students recently had a crack at an FIA Category A Group VIII Class 1 record - for electric vehicles under 500kg, average speed over 500km from a standing start - FIA confirmation should be in the next week or two as some of you may have read here...

Electric is the place to be if you want to set an international record that is wide open or low-hanging fruit. We were in touch with the FIA through CAMS (here in Australia) and they are mad keen on alternative energy records at the moment, will be very open to helping high-profile attempts happen.

Best of luck to the Buckeye team, here's hoping they get a stellar run in while the track is good!

Final report posted on the Cook website yesterday:

"DJ Safety on the salt with the Buckeye Bullet. Chutes and safety equipment working perfectly as the team works the car up to speed. 5:30 pm, perfect conditions for the next pass."

What happened next?   :?

Elsewhere it says they can keep running until noon today (Friday).

Posted last night on FB:

The Buckeye Bullet III established a new electric streamliner record today at the Bonneville salt flats. In a private attempt hosted by Cook's Landspeed Events, the streamliner set a new record in its class. Pending official certification and team approval we will be posting rhe results soon. The team has requested that we not release the speed until they approve it. We expect to receive that shortly.

Question posted: How many runs did they get in ? How long was the wait

Response this morning: 2 runs on Friday. We are still awaiting official confirmation and permission to publish the speed per team request. Delay is likely because they are all traveling today.

The new record pending FIA certification for Category A Group VIII Class 8 was 212.615mph, I saw this info on the Ohio-Tech Blog.
