Fire Extinguisher certification??
« on: February 16, 2014, 11:06:40 AM »
TFA's lil lakester's fire suppression systems came to us with 2 x 10#(net) bottles bought in 2008 but never used

Firefox Industries:  FX-325KPM-P, 2 x 10# Fire System w/brackets, pull,
Extinguishing agent:  FireXPlus is EPA SNAP listed as a water-based surfactant foam

They are in tip-top shape but W-A-Y beyond the 24 mo inspection/filling certificate period

Q:  do these bottles need to be discharged and re-filled, or just brought somewhere to be recertified?

In either case, where should I go to get this done?

Thanks much,
Karl

Kauffman – Halon Fire Suppression Systems
Houston
Quote
Do you currently have a Halon fire suppression system installed in your Houston, TX facility? While production of new Halon supplies has been banned in accordance with the Clean Air Act of 1994, it is legal to still own and operate a Halon fire suppression system if you already have one installed. At Kauffman Co., we provide full Halon fire suppression services, including Halon inspection, testing, recharge, reclamation, and replacement. If you need Halon services in Houston, call Kauffman Co. today.

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

gande:
Thanks for Joe Timney reference.  Joe is a great guy, but a long way from us.
my mistake for not mentioning our Houston base.

DeanLA,
we will contact Kauffman.
Although we don't have a Halon system, they may be able to help.
Thanks much1

Any fire extinguisher company should be able to check weight, pressure and re-certify for 2 years.

Life is an abrasive. Whether you get ground away or polished to a shine depends on what you are made of.

Ron,
Thanks to Dean LA, I am now in contact w/Kauffman in Houston.
As you point out they can recertify.
"yes we can inspect them if these are under 12 years old and gauges show to be in green they are still good"

"In accordance with Section 21.305(d) of the FAR, the FAA accepts handheld extinguishers approved by Underwriters Laboratories..." Also, in accordance with Section 25.851 (601(b1) "An approved type fire extinguisher includes those approved by the Underwriter's Laboratories, Inc., Factory Mutual, Underwriter's Laboratories of Canada..."

"Non-refillable disposable fire extinguishers (1211-1301) are exempt from the periodic hydrostatic test requirements."
