Chet Herbert and the #606 Roadster
« on: August 17, 2014, 12:32:58 PM »
OK here's another real challenge for all the Bonneville experts! In 1952 Chet Herbert brought the Beast III to Bonneville to set some records. The car was aptly named looking somewhat beastly, and shabby, prompting Dean Batchelor to write in Hop Up "I hope between now and next year Chet will do some real work on his car. Speaking mainly for driver safety, the car is not constructed for its speed potential" Since the car was direct drive Chet had to push the car to get in going. He had to push it to over 100mph! They needed two push cars to do it, a 50's Chevy sedan and the #606 '29 Ford roadster of Howard Johansen "Howard Cams Special". There is one small picture of this set-up in the hard cover book 'Best Hot Rods' by Jaderquist and Borgeson. My question is, does anyone have any photos of the #606 Johansen Roadster? Thanks for any help.
