World Finals 2014
« on: August 15, 2014, 09:45:48 PM »
For those of you who plan on racing at the World Finals for the first time (weather God's willing) I thought I would offer up some info taken from my past timing slips.
The first two are from Speedweek and the second two from The World Finals.
08/11/02   Early Olds injected on Alky       219.4 mph      7053' density altitude
08/15/10   BBC injected on Alky               238.2 mph       6840' density altitude

10/10/09   BBC injected on Alky                n.t.**                 4186' density altitude
      10/04/12    "         "        "    "                  229 @4 mi.          4220' density altitude

For us N.A. guys and gals the W.F. air is Heaven on Earth, more fuel+more spark= RECORDS!!!*
* don't get greedy right away.... many have and got to go home early
** My thanx go out to Comp Cams and their P.O.S. roller lifters for their "quality products" resulting in not hitting the five under power both trips to the W,F,'s.
Good luck to all at hopefully both the W.O.S. and the W.F.'s (and of course the BUB and Cook meets).
                                                                                                Bob

When is the deadline for pre-registration? I can't seem to find it on the SCTA site.  :-P Wayno

Nowhere near the same usually, but I'd expect them to be up some this year considering no SW.  Also it can be quite cold and the days are for sure shorter.  Still this year the event is a couple weeks earlier than when I've gone before.  Some mornings then in the 30's with wind and your mind was telling you that you were looking at snow and not salt  8-).  I like the fact that they are holding the event earlier than some of the years in the past and hope they continue to do so.  It could be perfect temperature wise.

I'm starting to wonder if I'll make SW in the future with the high room rates and the temps that are getting harder for me to handle, especially in a suit.  WOS and WF might be my events of choice in the future,

Sum

Sum, I pretty much decided that I would do the same. Although if you come on Sunday or Monday it is way cheaper. The heat doesn't bother me so much. 95dg and 10%humidity is not bad to somebody from S. Texas. :-D

Sumner, you don't have to wear a suit (and tie), just levis and t shirt. Got to visit with John K, Hooley and Scatty Stude at the swap meet.

Apparently (or maybe apparelently)  he doesn't always ride that way -- check the tan lines.  He says the darker is SFI 3, the lighter SFI 2.  Who knows?

It was easy to get someone to hold my clothing then. Now when

I try that someone shows up with a garbage can to slide down over me.

With sufficient thrust, pigs fly just fine. However, this is not necessarily a good idea. It is hard to be sure where they are going to land, and it could be dangerous sitting under them as they fly overhead. -- RFC 1925

So do you guys find that engines run better at world finals but that the air density is higher with the cooler air and thus increases drag on the car?  Which do cars generally run better at?  This is mainly considering lower HP cars under 200 mph as we need all we can get :)
