I am curious as to how many wait and see types are going?  Seems like a lot of people I've talked with are going but not preregistered.  May get swamped with last minute entries.  Hope everyone gets plenty of run time.  I am already kicking myself for waiting till world finals

You may have picked the right one --

but if you didn't, you've got a long wait 'til the next chance.

I expect this may well be a walk-up program.  Monte implied they were at about 150 pre-entries.

Looking at the progress that's been made this week by the USFRA on the courses and the forecast, it's looking like a real opportunity.

Jim, I'm still in Salt Lake but the 18% humidity has been drying the water from sprinklers in just minutes from the sidewalks and gutters.  If the same thing holds true for the salt it should be just smooth salt by the time I get out there on Friday.

Depending upon attendance, we could sponsor some brats, cheese and a few beverages. If you guys decide let me know.
Otherwise we will still be Bar Stool racing at some point or another...

USFRAMONTE -

How late will they be letting people onto the Salt on Friday?  I'd like to be able to at least drop the trailer, if not set up the pit.

Salt Talks '14 is an if --= if you ask me.  I've got a few of the things we'd need -- but didn't pack anything like the food basics -- condiments, plastic forks, spatulas and pans to hold the meat and the rutabaga greens, etc.  I've got a few gifts for a raffle and did bring the tickets for said raffle -- but that's about it.  If youse guys want to pitch in and help I sure betcha we can do in, but please make your intentions be known to me - preferably in person once we're all there - so I can give you some information like when to show up for your assigned duty.  I'll be hanging around the streaming audio, I guess.  I'm driving a Chevy Cruze - black car, Minnesota plates - and don't have the well-known SSS trailer to serve as a landmark.  But donchu worry - I'll be there.  See you on the salt.

The courses have been surveyed. We now have the dragging done on the long course, the short course is about 2/3rd's done.
The water is receding at lands end but it is not going to be a pretty sight when everyone starts driving through there.  I included
a photo taken at 8:00 am this morning to compare with the one I posted Monday night.  The second photo was taken on the long
course at the 4 mile looking back toward the starting line. The third photo is also on the long course, it was taken at the 7 mile
looking toward floating mountain.  You can see how brown it looks now, it will whiten up a bit as it continues to dry.  I was able
to drag to the 7 1/2 mile but chickened out and turned around.  If I ever get the drag truck stuck in the mud, I would never hear
the end of it.  It is quite smooth beyond there but don't know exactly how far you could go without getting stuck.
I feel that we will have two good courses to run on and hope to see everyone soon.  Drive safely!
