wanted: two x 28" Goodyear Frontrunner - D1966
« on: July 21, 2014, 10:44:54 AM »
We have 2 D1966's for our lakester but they slowly leak air, so TFA Racing ordered 3 new D1966's with "plenty of lead time..." for Speedweek.

This morning, Race-Mart finally told me that Goodyear has just started producing them, so we are scrambling.

Our normal vendors JEG'S & Summit, are also waiting for a shipment; Speedway doesn't carry them

Just now I found 1 in stock at Street Side Auto, it'll be here at the end of this week.

Does anyone know a vendor who might have D1966's in stock?

Thanks for your help!
Karl

conclusion
I ordered 2 tires from a vendor in OK on monday at noon and had 2 pristene Goodyear Frontrunner D1966's in my Houston hands at noon on Wed, 48 hours later.!!!!!
They both measured 91.25" circumference @ 90psi.
I just ordered a 3rd from that vendor bc i'm not 100% happy with the tire i got from another supplier.

I won't mention Carter Maxwell by name, but if someone needs Goodyear Frontrunner tires, please send me an email and i'll direct you to a 1st CLASS SUPPLIER!

How much air do you run in them ? 90 psi seemed a little  much.???

i have heard experienced opinions ranging from 70-90psi.
90psi is our plan unless someone has strong experience otherwise.

ALL  of our Goodyear front runners leak thru the side wall even when they are new. Our dirt Hoosiers do the same thing. I always take extras and the only ones that don't are the M&H's. We also run right at 60 psi.

Good look.

Most race tires leak through the sidewalls to some extent, even when new. The manufacturers keep some of the weight out of the tires by minimizing the amount of rubber in the sidewalls and it's assumed that in a properly run racing operation tire pressures will be checked and adjusted before every run or race.

I have stopped air loss in the race tires by mounting them up, seat the beads. Then remove the air, remove valve stems put a small amount of liquid starch in side the tire. Roll the tire around lay it on the sides to coat the inside of the tire. put air back in and roll some more when it drys it seals the tire side walls.

Guys,
thanks for the info, all is noted.

To stop the seepage, we have also been told to "paint" the inside of the tire with Dawn dishwashing liquid before mounting.
That has been done and seems to be working.

BTW:  While mounting, getting the Frontrunner's bead to seat seemed to be a challenge to our local tine shop, but they prevailed!
