SPEED DEMON Book - VERY limited print run
« on: July 17, 2014, 04:55:57 PM »
A number of land speed racers have asked for a copy of "Demon's Dozen," the book George Poteet commissioned me to write about the team's incredible 2012 racing season where the car exceeded 400MPH a dozen times in one season. The books were, first and foremost, a personal "thank you" to the team members. Mr. Poteet had a few extra copies printed for his own use and I have couple myself -- the digital print run was a modest 100 copies.

I have George's blessing to reprint the book, but with such small numbers the cost on a digital printing system makes the per-unit cost rather steep. The hardcover book is 68-pages of full-color that includes the team roster and individual biographical sketches with specific comments of each by team owner Poteet, technical specification lists, an aerodynamic summary of the design and a full narrative of entire the 2012 racing season covering Speedweek and Mike Cook's Shoot Out where the car earned two FIA World records. Historically, the Speed Demon has recorded the most plus 400 runs in the sport's tenure. Al Teague told me the most he ever plugged into a season was 8 plus 4's.

In pursuit of Don Vesco's 458MPH World Wheel Driven Record, there is no streamliner closer to doing so than Speed Demon. My very best wishes go to George and crew for 2014, the start of the second century of speed. . .

If you earnestly wish a copy, this thread is a first-step to gauge intent and the number of copies I might have reprinted. They will not be more than $50., but also not less than $35. - the final amount is wholly dependent on the number of books ordered. Set-up costs are big part, so it makes good, economical sense to do this once. I do not want money at this time, only your sincere pledge of interest in buying a book to see if this process is worth taking to the next step.

Reply here with the number of books desired or send me a personal message. If enough people step-up, I will launch a ordering portal on my website with details about the delivery schedule. The team would doubtless be thrilled if you asked them sign your copy.
