X2 on carrying two spares for trailer.  Have had occasions to need both on same trip before.  I also am upgrading to the load range D tires from past C range.  Mine is just an open std car trailer, but I have lost many tires over the years.  ST tires do seem to work better for me.

Biggest advice is make sure tires are at max inflation pressure.  Helps them run cooler.

I blew 6, of 6 total, tires going to the Ohio Mile and back last weekend.  225/75/15 Gladiator ST's.  They were a couple years old, low miles though, maybe a couple thousand total.

Blew 4 on the way up there, and the remaining 2 on the way back.

Heading to Bonneville in 2 weeks, so I just bought a full set of Maxxis M8008's after doing some digging around/research.  I bought new wheels to so I could go with the 16" tire which has an additional 600lbs weight capacity per tire.  235/80/16's.

Hoping for much better trailer time to Bonneville and back... that was ridiculous last weekend!   (did get to go over 200 though, so the trailer pain is a distant memory)

We blew 4 tires last year and 4 more this year going to the T&T last week. They were radials load rated "E" the trip is 400 miles each way. Rick is is going back to Bias ply as we never had a problem with them. Hope every one has a safe and tire free problems going to the salt. See you there.

I've towed a lot and never had trailer tire problems as long as I was using the trailer, but if it sits even 3-4 years with the tires covered and basically new then they tend to come apart.  Now, if the trailer has been sitting past 4 years I'll replace the tires before I'll go far with it.  They now say they should be replaced at least at 5 years regardless of the tread,

Jerry, I ran 16" tires, load range E, balanced on TorqueFlex axles and never had any issues on them. I built the trailer in 2001, ran the same tires and had the first one go bad on our last trip out in 2010.

Sum, you've just jinx yourself. I had the same luck for 35 years and I've towed a lot and it all caught up to me last year. 5 out of 6 blow outs.
I now carry 4 spares.

As many of you know I'm in the RV business and figured out all brands suck. 4 years old and they are done. Most trailer tires made over seas now. Been seeing way more tire blow out damage here at the shop than in years past. What we experienced last year was over 70-75 mph and the rubber basically melted. We tow slower now and have had no problems.

Those 15" gladiators were E load rated, 2830 lbs I think.  The Maxxis 16's are E load rated at 3420lbs per tire IIRC.

Hope to have far less, maybe no, drama.  But I'll still bring spares just in case.  And I never buy road hazard, but did on these.  Free replacement as long as they have 3/32 tread left...

What about stepping up to a g range trailer tire? More expensive, but harder and cooler running. My brother in law doubled the road mileage on his one ton by switchin to g range tires. A 19.5" rim wil keep em wearing even as well with less sidewall flex.

That may be your problem -- 200 is a lot to ask from a trailer tire.

Nice going Jerry- got the power to the ground I see. I've been struggling with the tire deal too. Lost one going to Wilmington in jJune that took the fender off, two more moving some furniture in the race trailer. I am seeing that the issue is age and trailer sitting for long periods getting square, they never wear out so is hard to toss something that looks like it has new tread on it. I am thinking the Maxxis 8008's see, to have good rep but as with a lot of things on the internet, some people love one brand, next guy says is the worst thing ever made. I will have 4 spares for Bonneville.
