I would like to clear up some of these "facts"

Sparky, tire size was 28" front and 32" rear. Big tires. model A quick change and not direct drive

Pops, they only ran 25% Nitro

Ron Gibson,  they only ran nitrous  and nitro in the unblown roadster with a Dodge

Freud, Alan and Bones drove one year, 1966 only and  Alan went 283. Charlie was at home because his son was being born

Sid, no DeSoto in the lakesters, ever. And they never survived, always came home broken.

Sumner, Charlie doesn't how much the cars weighed. I would have to ask him but I don't think there was any ballast in the cars

Hope this clears some things up,
Craig

Soooo my first trip to the Salt was with Ernie Pereira who was running the old "big" Markley tank with a GMC, it is then I met the Markleys, 1977.

The word I heard .. is that at 280 mph it spun the tires.. don't know the weight on rear.. though..

check this out...

Wow. I asked the same question on the big thread at HAMB and got no answers. This is a great website.

Also- FLASHPOINT STREAMLINER! What an awesome car. It reminds me of the cars I drooled over as a kid. In second grade, I constantly checked out the same book from the school library. The streamliners, belly tanks, and jet cars were just an incredible thing to see. Almost like fighter planes on the ground. As cool as the streamliners are, it was the Markley Brothers tank that really captivated me. Just a couple of days ago, I rolled a big crate into my garage with a fiberglass copy of a P-38 tank inside. It has the 20" extensions. It will get a plexiglass nose, just like the Markley tank. It's late. I'm rambling. Thanks for all the answers. What a fascinating website.

Charlie Markley at the Grand National Roadster Show 2014.

Feel fortunate to call him friend.........

It's people who make these cars happen. We all know the cars, Charlie & Bones were the people.  8-)

 RIP Bones.

Nope, same name different Charley Markley.

The Charles Markley in the above drag race photo (Dougs link) is the brother of former top fuel champ Gains Markley.
