Buying boots.
« on: June 09, 2014, 07:31:59 PM »
Maybe you need to be a South African to get this but I'll try anyway.

I need a new pair of boots so I go to the shoe mega store near my place.

I wear Hi Tech "Yosemite" boots for work, they're supposed to be hiking variety but who cares, I like them.

This lady approaches me to help so I tell her I'm looking for HT "Yosemite" (pronounced like you guys would) and she goes Eish, noooo we don't have that wahn. Nooo, noo, the only one I got it is Yosamight. It's not Yosemite, It's Yosamight.   I tried to tell her it's Yosemite.    There's not that wahn yoo wahnt, Here's only Yosamight!. :-D.

I had to get out of there in a hurry. :-D :-D :-D

Like a lot of places in the Western US, it's a Native American name, and most Colonial rules of grammar don't apply.

Went to school with a guy from India who pronounced Metallica's name "metal-ika".

He probably thought I sounded funny, too.
