Follow the sad tales of a wannabe bike builder ,as he attempts to chase the' big boys toys'
the author /builder practices the time honored  minimalist approach ,minimum ,money, time ,talent, tools  and everything ,so sit back and have a good laugh at ,project "no bling on this thing"
see ya on the salt sometime

The author attempts for the first time to rake a hitech jap frame ,why cause the pro frame builders want my first born as part payment , so armed with gross ignorance ,a hacksaw ,gas axe and some hinges ,presto 10* raked busa frame

jump forward a couple of months , very busy ,mostly scrounging up those elusive  $$, but fortunatly ,project no bling on this thing is slowly taking shape ,the plan is to have it ready for Gairdner in 07 and then if all goes well ,join the Aussie asalt to. Bonneville 08.
a snippet on the project ,1350 APS/BF  ,turbo /nitrous with a twist of somethins a little different ,my main thrust has been to minimise the frontal area ,which needed a rethink on the whole layout , I have successeded in lowering aprox 100mm  ( 4 ") by changing the frame ,and sub frame geometry ,raking and altering the suspension ,as well as increasing the wheel base ,now at 78" ,at the rear I have fabricated a lengthened chrome molly underbraced swingarm ,attached to the swingarm are the mounts for the lead ballast and fitted inbetween the swingarm the coolant for the air/water intercooler , altered the subframe to accept a new fuel tank (holds 16ltrs alky) and room for the 5lb nitrous bottle ,both of which fit under the tail section

Great work Gary.  I like the way you have re-worked the swing arm.

I keep thinking I don't have much room on my car.  After looking at how you guys have to package everything on your bikes I'll have to quit my whining 8) .

Sure hope you can make it over here in '08 and hopefully I might be over there next year or the following if I can figure out how to make that happen :D .

c ya, Sum

on the rear subframe, how far back did you bring the seat with those brackets? are you fabbing a long aluminum seat to fill the gap to the fuel tank? what are you running in the two tanks? how much balast do you think you can support on the 4 mouting points total?

great fab by the way. looks excellent. forward thinking....we ll, actually rearward thinking. :D

Thanks for the feed back blokes  :D as the title suggests ,my main aim is to try and encourage other "backyard builders" on low budgets to get out there and have a go ,Im using this build to show that it can be achieved ,on very little compaired to the big budget boys ,
Sum ,yes working out where and how ,to best locate everything is a real challenge
bbb, can add up to 100kg  lead ballast .top  tank (methanol),my design allows fuel from the bottom  via 1/2 " line  and return fron the regs at the top ,hopefully the narrow section will act as a type of surge tank in the  top section, the bottom tank (between the swing arm ) will hold chilled water for the air/water intercooler  holds aprox 10 ltrs  and another 5 in the lines and intercooler ,uses a bilge pump inside the tank

the nitrous system , is self contained with its own fuel tank , pump and regulator ,it will run C16 or similar  ,has two purposes ,firstly I have 2 turbo's (great buys on ebay  )  a t61 and a t70 its there to spool up the big one  and secondly for a little extra top end mumbo, nice and compact
