Is Bonneville ready for John Force?
« on: June 07, 2014, 02:54:04 PM »
In Hot Rod magazine issue 07/14 a sidebar to a John Force interview (he's the guy who takes over live interviews when NHRA drag racing is shown on TV) the driver says he wants to "be the fastest on the ground" and has a desire to drive at Bonneville.

The story includes the drivers thoughts that it would be "a five year project" but that you build in a year with reality TV following the team, promote the attempt around the world in the next year and then race it in the following year "in three countries, then you bring it to Bonneville". He ends by saying "Bonneville is where you gotta go".

So my question for this topic ..... is Bonneville ready?  [And which other three countries could host the fastest on the ground?]

Bonneville can be very humbling. Garlits dabbled & decided it wasn't for him.

Well we know that Bloodhound plans to run in Africa.  We know he could run in Australia, don't know about a third possiblity.
We (Bonneville) have hosted: Andy Green, A.J. Foyt, Bobby Unser, Mario Andretti, George Poteet, Tom Burkland, Al Teague,
Don Vesco, et al.  Sometime I will have to share my Bobby Unser story here!

It's funny...I've always wondered if Force would be interested in LSR. He strikes me as that kind of guy...

It seems like he's more interested in being the fastest guy on the planet and not so much interested in dry lakes racing.  That's just my take.

My gut feeling is that it won't happen. Witness Doug Herbert and others. John Force may try to do the Tony Stewart deal. Fly in, run for one day, by-pass license runs, set record and gain 2 club membership. Everyone else must standby while this goes on. End result? Not invited.

I guess when the reality TV show airs we will see him several years after, not holding my breath.  Big Daddy did it the old fashion way... not the high profile fast track treatment enjoyed by some....

I was staying at the Motel 6 as was Garlits... He would come out with his suit on..  He was having fun.. Him, Richie Venza, and crew..  had lots of fun .. even had an Ardun.. He showed me what I was doing wrong with my chevy. Then of course had a story to go along with the solution.. He was so "normal" ... well if you could say Flathead guys are normal.. lol

Funny .. Famous Hemi guy .. gets Red Hat with Flathead..

Big was checking in at the same time as i was. Yes he acts just like everyone else. But everyone else acts differently around someone so well known. At least i did.

yep... he is normal as a guy could be... looked at my valve as I handed it to him... guide still attached... said the obvious .. not enough clearance.. lol

"looks like a super stock guy did your valve job" he said... yep I said ..

"you need bigger seat area.. takes away the heat.. and at least 3 thousands clearance.. don't worry, the valve will figure out how to seat itself"

"that reminds me .. I just set a national record.. and a guy walks up and wanted to buy my engine... so I sold it ... then a month later he ..........."
