Motorcycle racing tires
« on: June 05, 2014, 02:01:15 PM »
M-G 1350 current record is shown as 200.750 mph.
I'm lookin at Bridgestone BT 003 ZR tires, their shown as speed rating at 149+.

Are there any suggestions for "Race tire suppliers" that will have tire ratings that cover this class record?

Will shaving the BT 003 increase the rating to cover the class record?

Bill

First, I preface my post with - "newbie alert" - this is a first post from a soon-to-be-rookie hoping to pass 1st tech inspection in Sept WOS.

I share Bill H's uncertainty with what tires pass tech.  I have checked dozens, likely hundreds, of the forum responses on tires and I still haven't come across a post that gives a solid answer on allowable tires for 200+ mph bikes. If I missed, my apologies, and please provide some direction where to look.  Otherwise, Is there any chance someone would be willing to tell me/us what specific tires they have seen have the best results at Bonneville (up to 220mph), or more importantly, if any of the following are NOT allowed through spec?:

Bridgestone BT003 Race
Bridgestone BT003 RS (Race Street)
Bridgestone R10
Dunlop D211GP-A N-Tec
Michelin slicks

Also, does anyone know if production class bikes must run stock tire sizes. Unfortunately, some of the tires above do not come in the typical production aspect ratios. Can I run a 55 aspect ratio on a bike whose production tire is a 50 aspect ratio but with same diameter and width?

Thanks,
Steve

The 1350 M/G record was set on BT 003rs tires. I have run up to 235 on them, great tires.

Thank you! This feedback alleviated two big concerns : 1) getting sent home with non-spec tires, and 2) wondering if the tires I bought are going to come apart.
