Shaved ZR rated motorcycle tires
« on: May 29, 2014, 06:42:18 PM »
Im looking for some info on motorcycle tires.  The sizes I run are: Front-120/70zr19 and Rear- 200/50zr18 it says in the rule book that ZR rated tires are good up to 200mph.  Although this year it doesnt mention anything about shaved tires, I want to run my ZR rated tires and have them shaved but I don't want any issues if I run just above 200.  So i guess my question is, if I run shaved ZR rated tires will I be able to run above 200mph?  That is if my bike will.  Any info will help.  Thanks

Race the "BUB" meet (I know new name) and read in their rules and see what it notes about tires.(not like the SCTA/BNI rules).........................
Question authority.....always

You run same wheel sizes and me..............and ZR tires..............I plan to compete in the new Classic bike category at the Bonneville Motorcycle Speed Trials..........the AMA rules say the tires have to meet the requirements for the existing record in each class.................the Z-rating from some of the manufacturers says 186+mph...............is the interpretation of the + equal to unlimited?  Is professional shaving available for high-speed safety?
2011 AMA Record - 250cc M-PG TRIUMPH Tiger Cub - 82.5 mph
2013 AMA Record - 250cc MPS-PG TRIUMPH Tiger Cub - 88.7 mph

2 guys i know of shave tires in CA
down in San Diego  and  in San Jose

If your running SCTA , shaved will not help, you will need Race rubber if the existing record or your bike are over 200

W rated Conti race attack would fit your front but the rear is more difficult

Nate Jones  -- Cowboy Tire company in Huntington Beach, Californica.  562 597 3369.  I've bought tires, both shaved and not-shaved, from him a bunch of times.  He is a regular on the salt -- is the tire guy on the Speed Demon crew, and also visits everyone on the salt -- 'specially his customers and anyone that asks for his help.

I ended up buying new 17" wheels and tires to run SCTA.  Nate Jones shaved my last set, great guy! Here is my bike currently.
