Any point in bringing a bicycle to Wilmington?
« on: May 29, 2014, 02:06:45 PM »
At some race tracks, it's handy to have a bicycle or two to travel from the pits to the official starting area, concessions, bathrooms, etc.

Is this something that is common at The Ohio Mile?

I'll have some room in the trailer, just wondering if there's any advantage to having a bicycle at the event.

Yes. I 100% support bicycles at the Ohio Mile. Even now that the most of the pits have moved closer to the starting line, I still think that bike is the way to go. Most competitors will have some other form of transportation to get from their vehicle to the pits / food / registration trailer (golf cart, scooter, bicycle, or lawnmower - seriously). I like getting the exercise and having the maneuverability of being on a bicycle.

Plus, with the speed limit at "10mph" through the pits, being on a bike is not going to put you in the way and will keep you in the regular flow of traffic.

Planning on pedaling real fast. Don't think they have a class for pedal power :-D Sorry we won't be there in June to see the little smokey truck run we'll be there in july. Go fast and be safe.

True about the speed on a bicycle.  I could "maybe" hit 30 mph at the big end of the track.

I'm hoping to have plenty of photos and some video to share.

If I'm wearing this outfit, it's worth a few mph.

The wings help create lift, which greatly decreases rolling resistance.

Just as a follow-up, we brought 2 bicycles to the event.  They were a perfect way to get around the pits, to the various booths/tents/vendors, and to and from the staging area.

With the pits located mid-track, the longest bike ride anyone would ever have to make is about 1/2 mile, on perfectly level ground.

On Sunday morning, it wasn't even necessary to pedal when headed towards the starting line.  The wind took care of propulsion in that direction.

I highly recommend this mode of transportation to anyone attending The Ohio Mile events.

Excellent! Glad you enjoyed it. I never understand why more people don't bring bicycles to this event.

We always bring a bicycle or two to all the events we attend. Its a great way to get around the pits and to go around to visit, or just check out whats happening in different areas -

How about our powered pit bike?  Are engine-driven pit bikes allowed?  In our case it's a Chinese knock off of a Briggs and Stratton engine on a little frame with 12" wheels.  I see that we'll need to have an off road vehicle permit for it at Bville, but maybe they're welcome at Wton, maybe they're banned.  Any information?

Pit bikes are fine Jon (ridden by adults, at safe speeds, watch out for race vehicles, etc etc).
