North American Eagle - petition of President Obama
« on: May 27, 2014, 03:44:30 PM »
The White House promises a public response to any petition that receives 100,000 signatures.

Please cut - paste - share.

If we can't raise 100,000 signatures, then it probably isn't important.

But it is important to me.

To get this across to 100,000 people you will need to use the various social media - facebook, twitter and so on.

The US Government site does require a log in / registration process, but it does allow international entries.

Neil, that's always a possibility.  But gut level, if the argument can be put into terms of national pride and international competition, a competition the Brits have raised the ante quite high on, I think it likely that the administration could set a tone in which the bureaucrats Ed is stuck dealing with might be more inclined to say "yes" rather than take the easy way out and say "no".

Ain't going to hurt to try.

Spartacus - sign on with me?

Ed, I'm already on it.  Click below -

https://petitions.whitehouse.gov/petition/help-north-american-eagle-team-bring-back-absolute-international-land-speed-record-united-states/53Zlsf8T

Here's the text of the petition -

We petition the Obama administration to:

Help the North American Eagle team bring back the absolute international land speed record to the United States.

Dear Mr. President –

We ask you to intercede on behalf of the North American Eagle (NAE) team, builders of a jet powered land speed racing car with the potential to eclipse the current British record of 763 mph. Both the Bureau of Land Management and the US Air Force have been helpful to the NAE team. Nevertheless, the bureaucratic hurdles that the NAE team have encountered from the military and the BLM threaten to derail their mission, which is to bring the absolute international land speed record back to a United States based team.

As commander-in-chief and as the chief executive with sway over the BLM, your support and influence could help bring the World Land Speed Record back to a United States based team. We invite you to join in support of the North American Eagle.

The reason I did this is because I believe that if you or a team member had started it, or even had any knowledge of it beforehand, it would have come across as self serving.  By having it started by a person who is a fan of the team, but with no direct ties to it, I believe it gives this petition more credibility.

I encourage everybody who thinks that the NAE team deserves a bureaucratic reprieve from the headaches they seem to encounter with respect to their dealings with the federal government to join me in this petition.

I also have this link, along with a longer explanation, posted on my Facebook page, which anyone is welcome to link to . . .

Good luck, Ed, and to the whole team.

Thanks, Malcolm.  You make a critical point - this needs to become a groundswell through any and all possible media outlets to succeed.

I've already posted it on my Facebook page, and I intend to send out a personal request via e-mail to a number of friends who share the same conviction - that the NAE team is a point of pride for both US and Canadians, that their community outreach efforts are worthy of acknowledgement and support, and that this team effort exemplifies the American spirit - actually, the universal human spirit - of chasing one's dream to it's conclusion.

Let me also point out that the White House has a timeline of 30 days on all on-line petitions.  The cut-off is June 26th, so if this is to be effective, we need to act now, and stay active in sharing this link and recruiting signatures.

Please join us in twisting some arms.

The Brits are known for their sense of 'fair play' so I hope many of my countrymen/women will follow my example and give this initiative their support, especially as the absolute Land Speed Record has been an International/World competition over the century plus.
