Welcome to the DYNOTHON, 2014!
Once again, I’m challenging ALL of you to –
A – Join in the fun.
B – Help us raise some funds for this website.
Just like last year, I’m challenging you all to make a commitment to support this site with a donation. The donation will be based on the BEST HORSEPOWER PULL WE CAN GET OUT OF MY 999 CC, 5 PORT, CARBURETTED, NORMALLY ASPIRATED, 3-MAIN BMC A-SERIES ENGINE.
Last year, we pulled 95.1 hp out of it on T&T's Superflow dynamometer in Gurnee, Illinois. So this year, we do have a baseline, rather than just a decent educated guess.
This year's improvements include -
Paul Ivey racing valves, which demonstrated a measurable increase in exhaust flow on the flow bench.
Coated pistons.
A more stable, adjustable timing belt arrangement, replacing the chain drive. We didn't have time to adjust cam timing last year - this year, we'll see if there is power to be found there.
A new Maniflow all-out race header, comparing it to the Winners Circle unit that helped propel the Pommy Pygmy to 118.693.
A crank scraper and windage tray.
An electric water pump.
A plan that will let me put together a couple of different ignition curves into the brainbox.
A willingness to test a little leaner than last year.
It's my hope we'll see an additional 4.9 hp over last year. A nice 100 hp figure would be the target, but rest assured, we won't walk away without the best possible number.
I can't yet set a date. I'm waiting for rod bolts to arrive, and Fordboy has some early June scheduling things to deal with, but I need to push to have this ready to go no later than June 24th. I'll be finishing up the details necessary to set the appointment, and I will post the date here.
A photograph of the test results will be posted here as proof.
Once again, I'll kick it off with a commitment of $1.00 per horsepower.
No contribution will be considered too small, and if you’d rather not make your generosity public, simply PM Slim the amount you want donate per horsepower, and he’ll maintain your anonymity.
Let’s keep this site financially healthy, and have some fun doing it.
Thank you in advance for your generous participation!PS -
This is the year to participate, because as I start plans for the new DOHC, 4 valve MG/Rover K engine, rest assured, it'll never be cheaper. For either you OR me . . .
Ante up!
Chris Conrad
