17-18 May 2014 EM event
« on: May 17, 2014, 08:58:21 PM »
Hey -- if memory serves me correctly there's a meet at El Mirage this weekend.  Has anyone got any information?  Nancy saw a bit on Facebook - course on hold because of wind and then end of racing for the day due to wind.  But what else happened? :? :?

The meet went on wind hold and was called at a little after 2 p.m.  The 911 roadster got a run in at 252 mph.  John Noonan went 245 but "couldn't get it to hook up".  Grip seemed to be a problem.  I was at patrol position 10.  Fairly lonely spot.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

911= 252 on a 255
68B=245 on a 250
3535=177 on a 224
711=202? 2 club new member on a 198?
Shooting star 185 (missed a shift) on a 195
Still some racers never went through the first round.

Tomorrow's track should not yield higher times unless changes are made.  We changed suspension and one other thing.  The new track looked worse than today's track, a person doing course walk was able to insert his pocketknife blade deep in to the racing surface.  We have run on worse and better tracks.  Mother Nature was not good so far this year..

Thank you to all of the volunteers and good luck racers!

I was able to make 1 run at a blistering 95.4mph, my personal best but not the bikes. I know how the points works when a meet is called but what about the people who didnt get a round 1? do they get their $$ credited for the next event or is it gone?

I asked that question Sunday afternoon---presently :  and I quote

It's all spelled out in the El Mirage Procedures:
http://scta-bni.org/pdf/2014/2014%20El%20Mirage%20Procedures%20Final_C.pdf

II. DEFINITIONS & PRELIMINARY MATTERS
B. “Official meet”
A meet shall be considered an official meet upon completion of the timed run of the first vehicle to race.

X. POST-MEET PROCEDURES, MISC.
B. Entry Fee Refund
No refund of the entry fees will be given to any entrant after commencement of an “official meet”.

SCTA loses money on every lakes meet (thank God for Speedweek). A wind shortened event doesn't reduce the cost of the event at all and actually reduces the income a bit because the sales trailer shuts down. They still have to pay full price for the event insurance, fire/ambulance(s), BLM cost recovery fees (:roll:), porta-crappers, generator fuels, etc...

That doesn't change the fact that it's a shitty, no-win situation. In the 10 years I have been doing this, this is the first time I have not seen at least the first round completed. Especially on a 2 day meet. When the wind was already blowing at 6am Sunday morning I just knew that we were in for a long day.

Well it was just one of those weekends definitely a bummer I feel for the guys who didn't get to run at all.  Especially since those were the guys who were either new cars or drove a long ways etc.  Those are the people with the highest starting numbers usually.

We got one run went 195 on a 210 minimum. A coupler came loose right off the line so we had no boost.  Actually not a bad speed for a 9:1 low compression motor!!  Was ready to go Sunday but........   It was the first time I have been able to go straight and not worry about tire slip so that was a new experience

We were certainly hoping to be busier in impound on Sunday. We recorded 10 record runs on Saturday ( 1 was a new 200 club member ( Chet Herbert  :cheers: ) and one lonely one yesterday ( Nice job Martinez! ). Looking forward to June!
