Clutch ?
« on: May 16, 2014, 06:46:10 PM »
I am shopping for a new clutch. I have dun  graduated to 600+hp...wah hooo!  but the old street clutch will no longer cut it.
I am considering the Ram Force 10.5 double disc

Any suggestions?

After using several diaphragm style clutches and ending up with slip in varying degrees my next clutch will be a long style that can have centrifugal weight added. My last vehicle was an F100 with 650hp and it slipped bad at 184mph.

Chris;

What type of friction material were you using on your diaphragm clutch disc? A Long style clutch with added weights can be almost impossible to disengage at high RPM.

Double disc 10'000 RPM clutch from Ron Hamel ( deceased) Lancaster Ca. Handled 750 HP GMC on 75 % nitro with out problems. 2 disc is the way to go.......good luck.

Neil, I used the ceramic style friction material.
Trans is a Doug Nash so plan to only use the clutch of the line.

Chris;

Hmmm... I would think that clutch should have handled your torque. One thing-- diaphragm clutches are sensitive to how far their fingers are deflected. If it was ever over- deflected it would have been  damaged.

 Depending on how much you want to spend a 3 disc 71/4" clutch will work just fine.  I know of  few high HP cars using even a 5" 3 disc.  You can find rebuilt ones because of there wide use.  No matter what type of clutch you use ALWAYS install a pedal stop.  You never want to go over center with a clutch.  Mike
