Q filling out SpeedWeek entry form
« on: May 15, 2014, 05:56:15 AM »
Yes, Don & I know we are too late for Pre-Entry rate  :-D

But it must be filled out sometime, so I am penciling in an Entry Application;
no issues until i got to "Body Year & Mfg ________________".

Our TFA Racing lakester has several dates associated with it:
- Belly tank mfg in 1967
- Car orig built in 2010, issued a car number, but never tech-ed or issued a chassis #
- TFA heavily re-built car Oct 26, 2013 - Aug 7, 2014,
- Joe Timney issued chassis #4228, dec 2013
- SCTA issued car #5448, feb 2014

So, with all these dates, what should i put in "Body Year & Mfg" ?????
thanks,
karl

Karl, special construction vehicles are the hardest.  We usually go with 1984 MSA (Mountain States Automation) Lakester.  The chassis for the Bockscar was finished in 1976 and taken to the salt, raced as a streamliner in '78 and '79.  Converted to a Lakester in 1984 when we dropped the lower half of a Honda 750 Interceptor (frame, swingarm, motor and electronics) in it during a 10 day thrash and took the J/GL record, 138.xxx or so.

So my opinion is it is a 2014 TFA Lakester.

Keep your eyes on this site, pre-entry's pop up all the time.  If one does not, go to the salt, get inspected, then hang around the registration trailer.  There are always folks there selling their unused pre-entry.  The SCTA will not handle the sale, but the ladies (Joyce Jenson) in the trailer are generally aware of folks trying to sell an entry.

Stainless, thanks for the tips!

"2014 TFA Lakester" sounds good to me.

As per yr advice, we'll keep our eyes peeled (think on that phrase a little...) for a pre-entry being sold.

Come to think of it, since it was YOUR Sept 23 email which initially alerted us to the lakester's availability, maybe you will alert us to a pre-entry availability  :-D

There is usually a list of pre-entries for sale posted at the SCTA trailer.

Karl:

To go further on Stainless' tack -- I usually start a "pre-entry for sale" topic here, commonly starting it up in June or even July.  And lots of racers post their unneeded entries here before I get that topic going.

For the matter of getting one at the salt -- yup - Joyce Jensen is a good lady to know.  Go to her (registration trailer) or maybe JoAnn Carlson (she's usually really busy, but maybe. ..) and let her know that you're looking for an entry.  Give her your phone number and maybe take some donuts or something to the ladies in the trailer - and I betcha she'll call you when something comes available.
