How to edit posts?
« on: May 04, 2014, 12:01:29 AM »
After I post it gives the option to edit. Some of my picture files got moved and I went back to try and edit my original post and fix the broken picture links.  Now I don't see the option to edit anymore.  Any ideas?

You get a set amount of time to edit them, usually not long enough to sober up...

As I recall you have 4 hours.

While you are looking for EDIT also look for the Spell Checker.

Normally you send a private message to a moderator or admin and give them specifics on how to change a post.

Editing time outs are a two-edged sword.  They are a good tool to keep an angry member from deleting tech posts they put up in the past that readers rely on, but they also cripple the ability to update tutorials, events, and links, which often change days, weeks, or even months later.

Some forum software has the ability to store edits and deletions, which removes the "angry member" problem by allowing the staff to read and "unedit" tantrums.  vB is perhaps the best example of that.  Not sure if this software has the same feature.

WW, just post your links again with a sorry that moved.  Resizing and putting pictures in the forum ensures they won't get bumped off the end when you run out of space in your free pic account...
You can find those red Xs all over the internet forums from folks that let their pics expire.
If you want your pics to remain, go to additional options and pick the pic from your computer.  You can post 500K or 4 pics which ever is less.  Don't push the limit.

I pay for the basic size paid-for folder on Photobucket -- the smallest that isn't free.  I've got hundreds - maybe a couple of thousand - images and other stuff there. They've been easy to live with since I started paying (and it's only $25/yr or so).  They not only give me a few weeks' notice when the 1 year is about to expire but also have been quite helpful when things have disappeared or I've missed the renewal date (it happens in September during the Shootout and I'm often sorta busy with other stuff ).  $25 is a small price to pay for the peace of mind I get.

As for the doomsday concern that when the site goes dark I'll lose everything -- well, maybe I'll take the time to ask them what might happen then.  Thanks for the idea.  I'll let you know what I learn.
