Don Pennington passes
« on: April 16, 2014, 10:58:31 PM »
Sad to report the passing of Don Pennington (the Old Stripper) who wrote a great book on Bruce Geisler and the 219 car and was a well known Northwest Pin Stripper, Artist, Gearhead, and all around nice guy.  He had also written a book on Doug Thorley of Doug's Headers fame, a book on the famous Slo Poks car club in Vancouver, Wa. and last but not least, did the art work for my OldStud Racing Tee Shirts.
Don also lettered many race cars including Bruce's Hanky Panky Studebaker and the Northwind Top Fuel Dragster that Ed McCullough drove.
R.I.P. Don, you deserve it.  Say hello to all the Racer's in the sky.                              Bob Drury

Another great one left our world

I knew him not as a pin stripper but as an excellent model builder...some years ago he brought a collection of models of the City of Burbanks streamliner...wonderful built.

RIP Don...your talent will be missed

I just received an email from Bianca Elmer:

Save the date! The Don Pennington Memorial Rod Run will be Saturday, May 24th at the property of Paul & Vicki Comeau. My "sister", Aimee, is in the process of setting up a memorial fund to, hopefully, help ease some burden of the frightening level of medical bills that have been amassed. More detailed information soon; just wanted to make sure to get the date out.

Please spread the word.

Bianca~

More as I get it.

Don reproduced a bunch of vintage '50's and '60's decals for me.
Had several conversations with him and enjoyed his stories.

Truly sorry to hear of his passing.

Condolences to the survivors.

From Tracey Pennington:

PLEASE pass this around to friends of dad. And please make sure everyone knows it is a potluck...we are kind of excited to see all the different food that comes!

IMPORTANT!  We know the obituary stated "private" memorial. This is ONLY because we were fielding MANY requests/inquiries from people thinking this is a free car show with free food.  It was beginning to look like we were going to be dealing with miles of people trying to come and they have ZERO affiliation to any of the Penningtons.

OF COURSE this is an open event to those who knew my father, please help us get that word out!
And if it is easier for you to judst forward this email with my words...go for it! :-)

Thanks everyone!

A very nice memorial to a great human being.

There were a number of very fast LSR guys there, along with One Run  and even a wannabe or two
