Century of Speed book
« on: March 19, 2014, 01:42:26 PM »
I am posting in this thread because I could not find another more appropriate.

Ron Main and I were discussing the CoS book and were curious as to how many errors there might be. Has anyone discovered errors?

Thanks in advance,
DW

If I may digress - when Nancy and I went to the GNRS at Pomona a month or so ago we managed to acquire a few extra copies of the book to use as premiums on lr.com.  Since the subject of getting one of the books has now been broached -- I'll offer one to the highest bidder over $60, and that'll include shipping to your regular address in the U.S.

It's not a contest -- so ante up.  You've all got a chance to get one of the books for your very own - and to help the website at the same time.  I'll hold on to others (if we've got 'em) for trying to attract some $$ later on, so no, I won't sell you more than one/sell more than one at this time.  Thanks for asking.  Century Of Speed book available!  Bid now and bid high, please.

Okay -- back to the regular topic of errors.  I haven't gone through with a red pencil, Dan, so don't have anything to offer.  Maybe I'll find some time and see what I discover.

The beer for Rick comment  was because he has free beer for life for services rendered  He may be "a man of few words" but he is a hell of a guy and a great inspiration and a very fast racer and friend.

I bought the book at the GNRS and read it cover to cover -Loved it! I don't have very many years experience at Bonneville so am not qualified to comment on others. My first year was 2010 and I was very pleased to see they put a picture of my car from 2010 in that section. The caption went on to say that I ran 166. My only 166 run was actually my first run in 2013. Dan - you may remember it as we had a discussion shortly after. That's the only error I noticed. Thanks to all those involved in getting this book published. You did an amazing job!

Gord,

What speed did you run in 2010?

It might be nice to mention Nolan White was the first single engine car to go over 400 mph.

Or that Don Vesco set the fastest wheel driven vehicle record.

Seems like the part of the book that covers to mid 80's on might have been rushed. Small errors and incomplete data from significant events. I'm sure it will get better during rewrites.
