Heading to Ohio- Recommendations for things to do.
« on: March 15, 2014, 05:26:15 AM »
Hi guys. Coming to Bonneville this year (yay !!) and  have got a bit of a plan. Landing in LA 1/8 and spending a couple of days there (Donut Derelicts, Bob's Big Boy, Long Beach Swap meet etc. and then the redeye to Cleveland, Ohio landing at 6-20am Monday 4/8. Have got all day Mon, Tues, and Wed in Ohio and flying out Thurs to Salt Lake hitting Wendover about 6pm. Probably head to Carmens for a refreshing ale soon thereafter !!

Why Ohio? None of the 4 of us have been there so why not !!

Want to go to Dayton to see the National Museum of the US Air Force and where the Wright brothers did their stuff. Photo ops at the Cleveland engine plant(keep the Ford guys happy) and other than that, no real ideas. Any thoughts, suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers.
 John

Cleveland  also has the Rock and Roll hall of fame. Worth the time to see it if you like music, also you can get a good lunch there. Most of the old Ford plant is gone. A smaller new one was under construction 3 years ago.
The USAF museum is very nice. The XB70, SR71 and the B29 Bockscar and all the other aircraft make for a great display.

If you fly out of Cleveland a couple days after April 8th, you're going to be real early for SpeedWeek.  Maybe you should think about El Mirage in May, June and July to kill a few days.

Stan,

The gentleman is from NZ. Dates given are day/month, such as 1/8 = August 1st. Too late for El Mo.

Motorcycle Museum Hall of Fame Pickerington Ohio, S. of Columbus and the never ending road construction. Look for 100,000 orange cones with no one around with 4 lanes narrowing down to one

Sorry about that Stan, dates here are the reverse of yours!! Nice thought though :-D Rock and Roll Hall of Fame sounds good. Motorcycle museum would also be a goer. I might pass on the 100,000 cones, I drive about 65,000 miles a year for work and see plenty of those with no-one around. Seen one, you've seen 'em all  :x  Any other thoughts ??

the NFL browns may have a preseason game going.
the MLB Indians may be playing.
the NFL Hall of Fame is in canton.

the USS cod world war 2 sub can be toured.
the same for Great Lakes freighter -mather.
there is a lolly the trolley city tour bus.
the goodtime three has lake and river tours.

the Horseshoe Casino is right next to a Hard Rock Cafe.
there is a suburban Hard Rock Cafe with hotel and a rocksino.
next door to that is a track where the Trotters run- Northfield park.

there is a natural history museum , Botanical Gardens and Art Museum. the Cleveland zoo,
aquarium and Great Lakes Science Center.

there is a House of Blues.

many of the locations are close to each other.

Chamber of Commerce and Ohio Visitors Bureau might help you even more.

I knew somebody would trip on that one. The rest of the world does day/month/year, even the US Military.

Thanks Franey.
Some of those I pulled out of Lonely Planet but there are a few goodies there.
Will send the Visitors Bureau an email as well.

Cheers
