Stroker signs off. . . Tom Medley passes on
« on: March 05, 2014, 03:05:38 PM »
Just got off the phone with Gary Medley who let me know that his dad, the indomitable Tom Medley, proud papa of Stroker McGurk, passed away this past Sunday. There will not be a funeral, but a memorial will certainly be put together in the near future, doubtless within a month. I have attached a cartoon of his great work. I count him among those great speed oracles who knew from personal experience and who crafted this grand hobby we all now enjoy. I am not too sad that he is gone, because as Gary put it, "He went flat out to the end." When I think of all the people that man has made smile through the years there isn't much room for tears; he left us laughing! -- LandSpeed Louise

Thanks, Louise. Sorry to hear this. I remember his cartoons in HRM back as far as reading them in my high school library-- in Germany! He was another icon that will be sorely missed.

A Portland native, I met him years ago at a gearhead breakfast when he was in town to visit his son.

An interesting, funny man who will be missed.

RIP Stroker!
