Had a guy try to fool me in tech, with a snow mobil helmet with a snell sticker in it, pasted in with bubble gum, he didn't race.  Never did find the guy he obviously stole the sticker from.

I hope Mat has the answers on the European helmits before we race this year, I have seen a lot of these helmets come into tech, some of the prices on them freaked me out, its hard to tell someone who paid $800 for a helmit, that they cannot use it.

Be careful about equating the price of a helmet with safety. Will a $1000 Shoei helmet protect your head 10 times better than the $99 HJC helmet? No. Both are going to be certified to the same DOT and Snell standards.

The difference in price is comfort, fit, paint job and name recognition. If you are only going to be using the helmet once a year for LSR, there is no reason to pay extra for a premium helmet. Buy a helmet that is certified to both Snell and DOT, and fits you well. If you want everyone to be impressed with how much you pay for a helmet, buy an Arai or Shoei.

Didn`t want to start a new thread, so will just ask here:
I can easily find an ECE 22.05 helmet here, what bothers me is that the rulebook says "2010 or newer". What exactly does that mean? I can`t find any year markings in the helmets I´ve looked at. Simply put, if I buy a brand new helmet marked ECE 22.05 and bring the receipt will I be okay, or must it say (at least) 2010 somewhere in the helmet?

Look inside the helmet for the date of manufacture.

Ok, thanks.
Thought I did, but maybe not paying enough attention, if you say it has to be in there somewhere I believe you :-). Will go back to the dealer Monday and start tearing helmets apart :-D

Some US helmets have a date code on the strap. You should contact the manufacture for date code information.

Thanks guys :-)
You were right! Had to involve the clerk at the bike shop, and we helped each other tearing apart a bunch of helmets, before finding some that had a small date stamped sticker underneath all the padding :-D
You really have to look for it though :-)
