JAP motor.
« on: January 10, 2014, 08:07:33 PM »
My mate Hamish rebuilt this motor for one of his bikes.

He brought it to the club to show the guys how it turned out.
I'm sure some of you will appreciate the technology.

It would be neat to see the whole bike when it gets together.  :-D :-D :-D

As an aside, I like the looks of the dark ale beside the engine.

The engine looks right at home in that old pub.  It could run on some of the stuff in the bottles behind the bar.

It'a J. A. Prestwich from the late 20s I think.

The dark Ale was actually Rum & Coke and I don't know a thing about beer, any beer!. :-D

The guys at the club are into vintage/classic English cars and bikes.
I don't know anything about them either but MM would probably have a great time with the guys.
There's always lots of beer and the wizards can give part nos on stuff from the 30s and before.

My buddy Guido drags me along every Friday and even though I don't know the subject it's a nice evening.

From what I've read, all the speedway motors (Jawa, GM, ESO) were based on the original J.A.P. single.

Keith Richards once said something to the effect of, "The wise man goes to the party".

Guido is a wise man.

Even if it doesn't apply directly to the build you're doing, perspectives from far flung and older ideas are still of great value.

I have found that I have learned more by cracking a beer with the old guys than I ever learned cracking a book.

Retention isn't so good . . . but usually by the end of the evening, they start repeating themselves, anyway.

Anders Jonsson runs a Esso speedway motor in his LSR bike in the fuel class. I don't recall his record but his plan for this year is to add a hilborn injector instead of the old amal gp.

Very nice bike.  It looks like it took Jim L. on his Honda water cooled 8 valve twin in 2013 to beat his record. If he comes to BUB, he can get his record back.  I'd love to see it.  Especially since I'll be running 650 APS PG class this year.  The BSA is not much different.
