I hope we see a few more participants tonight.
When we get half a dozen people or more it can be a lot of fun.
If you're building we often do a little brainstorming.
If you're not building there's a whole bunch of bench racing, etc. (with emphasis on the etc.).  :-D :-D :-D

Pete

P.S. Don't be worried about typing skills or lack there of. Most of us seem to have ten rather slow thumbs, which really contributes to a mixed bag of conversations all going at the same time. It's a blast!

I'm wondering would more of you attend chat if it started with a specific subject matter with a moderator for that subject.  For instance say one night it is Glen and he answers questions about timing, or a specific car owner that answers questions about his car, or say someone from a place selling carbs and they answer questions, etc.  Then when the question period peters out it goes into a general chat?

With this format some could just lurk and not feel that they have to type and say anything, just be there and then enter in if you felt like it.

How about other ideas to make chat popular?  Are the Java problems in getting it to work and the security warnings using it turning you away?

Also the chat room works 24-7 so is anyone interested in using it spur of the moment if they see others are on during the day?

I enjoy the open-format chat sessions, but have had a schedule conflict for Tuesday evenings since November or so.

What if Jon (SSS) puts up a poll for which day and time frame.I don't think it will go away but Landracing will work with all of us and make changes.
I under stand that the east coast has a bit of a problem with the time factor. As Summer suggested a special subject discussion can be done at any time on the chat line, we are flexible and will set up a chat meeting with those that want a subject only session on any night.

I'm not a regular on the chat, but I do enjoy it a lot.  It takes getting used to - this is the only "chat room" I've ever participated in - but PJ's right - don't worry about your 10 thumbs.

Then there's this question.  It was PM'ed to me by someone that prefers to remain a lurker.  That's fine -- but I don't know if lurking can be done on the Chat Room.  Any experience, folks?

I don't think that's possible Jon but I don't see any problem with someone staying on the sidelines and watching. I wouldn't be surprised if at some point they start to participate when something of interest comes up.

I've been rolling something around in my mind.   :-D

The chat room is available 24/7 but right now it's difficult to organize getting someone you want to chat with on line at the same time as you. Would it be worth starting a thread where a person could suggest a topic and a time (including the time zone) and then anyone who's interested could log in at that time and participate? I think it might be a great way to brainstorm when someone has an issue with a project or is looking for a solution to a problem. It's certainly worked on the Tuesday night sessions when it's come up.
