Oh, man -- may he rest in peace.  I never "met" him, but remember seeing him in Gasoline Alley at Indy before the race in '63 or '64 or so.  They pushed the Novi out of the garage, warmed it a bit (glorious noise!), and when they shut it down, Andy, chewing on his cigar, called for "track" spark plugs (there were two/cylinder, I think, and I was stunned (remember, I was a young teen) when they took the warm up p;lugs out and tossed them into the trash.  While the mechhanics were changing plugs - Andy was opening and pouring can after can of STP into the engine.  That's something to never forget.

God Speed, Andy.

For an independent in racing, he was a true inspiration.

When Andretti won Indy in 1969, I think I was happier for Granatelli than Andretti - he'd worked so hard on the turbine cars in '67 and '68.

But I was always more fascinated with the Chrysler 300 Granatelli drove at Bonneville.  If I were to ever recreate a race car, that would be toward the top of my list.

I think I've still got a can of his snake oil out in the garage . . . I know I've got the stickers.

Studebaker folks will forever remember him for setting records on the salt driving Studebakers, and for his fervor at the helm of STP - a Studebaker owned company.

Long before the glory days of STP, how many recall Andy and his brothers set numerous records out on the Bonneville Salt Flats?

Andy made sure Paula Murphy got a chance to show the motorsports world that a LADY could run hard and win big with any guy. A consummate marketeer with a motor head heart; he created a speed buzz so many times, in so many segments of motorsports that it's doubtful any of the media folks will remember to chronicle them all as they scramble to memorialize this motor lion.

As for me and mine, we'll always be grateful for his unwavering support and jolly Italian sense of humor -- not to mention taking us to the best places to eat around Indy!

Dolly, sweet lady, you've had quite a ride with your man, could he EVER really be gone?

Andy, may God welcome you with speedy arms dear man. . .

After I sent the info about the Bonneville NW Reunion I received an e-mail from Andy.

He chewed me out for cluttering his e-mail account.

He said he was 91 years old and didn't have time for that stuff so quit sending to him.

I removed his address from my contacts list and now I wish it was still there.

When asked what STP meant Andy said "Studebaker's Tickled Pink"
