Course Markers
« on: December 17, 2013, 06:11:51 PM »
Can someone tell me approx how big the course markers are? How far are they apart (right to left)? How high off the ground are they?
We are making a little simulated video on running the #496 Streamliner and this info will help the accuracy.

The orange course markers a 4ft x 4ft  and sit on the out side of the edge of the course, they are located at each mile on both sides, in between there are cones each 1/4 mile. The course is 90 ft wide, at turn outs there are 2 or 3 cones to mark them. Hope this helps.

I understand they get smaller the faster you go . . .

I've heard that too.  So far they are quite large and far apart.
Get off the stove Grandad.  You're too old to be riding the range.

Mile markers at Bonneville are almost exactly the same width apart as the far tips of the hand grips on a Kawasaki ZX14 running in production class.

Ask me how I know -- or ask me to find a photo of my measuring method.  That picture is in the computer at work.

Slim says they get bigger in a hurry just before you take one out . . .
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.

My orange 1st mile marker with the hole in it [ same shape as spoiler spill plate but smaller] :-D is 4ft X 4FT

I was presented this with big ribbings after spinning into it. I pit with my buddies that install the markers and
one of them, Justin Coffman and EFI expert, is on our crew.
Of course they had to hang it off the shade

For a look at the banners on a run, go to build Diaries [getting ready for Bonneville] last post and last video.

Glen, that's great info.

We don't have anything here yet but I'll be sure to set ours up as you described.

I'm glad Rob asked the question.
