We have lost our status
« on: December 08, 2013, 06:45:45 PM »
I just noticed that we are no longer "Newbies", "Hero's" and such.

Our status has been stolen.

Our stars are gone also (unless you're a Moderator).

Is this the work of the Grinch or an attempt to reduce profiling.   :?  :-D

You're quick, Don.  but not that quick.  The status stuff has been gone for a few days.  The system was old - Jon A. put it into operation before I bought the site.  And it didn't serve any purpose, really, other than to offer some pretty-colored stars.  There were no benefits for it/from it, and Bob has been doing a whole bunch of work on the site.  One thing that wasn't being used is that status stuff -- so it's history.

But don't worry -- I still love you all.

That's easy to say for someone who still has stars underneath their name.

Here's what Bob had to say after he'd done it:

"There was no way to just turn 'em off, that I could find.  I hesitated to delete the group without doing some research... so first I set all the upper groups to require 10,000 posts, which made everyone a Newbie, so I just blanked out the text and stars and all.  Seems to work.  Admins got reduced to 3 stars."

At least I think that's what he did.  I wanted them to go away because as I said, they didn't represent much of anything that any of us knew about, and sometimes they were intimidating to new folks here on the Forum.  That is -- what do I have to do to get a few starts like you folks do, and what privileges do I get when I've got some?

So now if you've got stars it's because you're an administrator with all of the rights and privileges thereto appertaining.  Recognise that phrase?

Here's another one I don't understand.  It's at the top of the page by the avatar.  Here's mine:

"Total time logged in: 93 days, 8 hours and 11 minutes."

I often leave my computer logged into the site for 6 - 8 - 12 hours/day, so the timer can't be counting total time for real.  Maybe it's the time I've had it in "post reply" mode.  Or maybe it's the time that the machine thinks I should be spending on the system, not what I really do invest.  Any other ideas - or will I have to ask Bob this one, too?

There's a checkbox when you log in that says something like "Stay logged in forever".... did you do that?  Pop into the forum without logging in?  Or log in every day?

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about.
Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.
Just remember . . . It isn't life or death.
It's bigger than life or death! It's RACING.

I think the number of posts should be multiplied by the persons age and subjected to a formula, where A is the number of wheels and X is the highest speed to member has attained , oh, and of course E is 1.0 which is derived by dividing any number known to man by itself, and a star should be allotted for each point....

Hey Don, have you finished those renovations yet? I might be looking for a stopover next summer :-D.......
Few understand what I'm trying to do but they vastly outnumber those who understand why...................
