I wonder were the F1 guys get that florescent green stuff they use. Probably really expensive!

Rick, what weight oil do you use?

Well, it used to be Los Angeles . . . 50 miles north of Fresno now.

I use the pigment that is used in flowviz.

It glows in the dark for hours too. I'm a lure builder. The stuff is expensive but it will last for a long time because you don't use more than a teaspoon at a time.

I think if you mixed it with oil you might have your own flowviz.

Racing oil of course....
Actually, I used what I had around which was 50 wt Mobil 1.
I think it shouldn't matter too much, but assumed that more viscous would be better.  Not a whole lot of experience with it.  Sample size 1of 1

Just looking through the latest issue of "Race Tech" and came across the F1 recipe for "flow vis"

I quote: " The substance is based on an organic solvent (usually paraffin or kerosene but it is possible to use heavier oils) mixed in approximately 3:1 ratio with pigment. This can be anything from Titanium Dioxide to lamp black to fluorescent colored chalk, Anthracene or Chrysene can be used to make the mixture -fluoresce under UV light and up to 10% of Oleic acid is usually added as an anti-coagulant. "

So there you have it the stuff that you see on the F1 cars.

That's exactly what I thought the Flo Vis was composed of. This opinion from a HS Chem class with a grade of a hard earned C.

Used motor oil works great. Just place on car body in drops about half the size of a penny and drive 70 mph for a mile or two.

These were some oil tests I did on my WRX on I70. I would stop on the entrance ramp shoulder, put the oil spots on the body, then flog it up to 70 mph and pull off at the next exit (usually a mile away outside of town) and take the pictures. Wipe the oil off, then turn around, apply new oil and head the other direction back to the original location.
