GNRS.....Never been.....May go this year.....for me seeing a LSR vehicle at a car show is like kissing your sister(I don't have one). It's great that others can see what we do and enjoy them too. Like Stan I show at local events (not free) and most are pleasantly surprised that there are LSR vehicles other than streamliners.....JD

At the Grand National Roadster Show 2014 you will be able to get the 302-page exhibition book - Bonneville - A Century of Speed. (Also order on-line at the site below) It will have a surprising, special price for visitors to the show! Bonneville books are few and far between, but this new exhibition book covers the collective history of Bonneville racing in a massive 302 page layout. Created to celebrate 100 years of Bonneville racing the book starts at the root of land speed racing in 1898 in France and quickly moves to America with a brief the Florida Speed Trials and to the first known racing on the lake in 1914, onward to the 2013 season.
Filled with grand images of the great Bonneville champions including Mickey Thompson, Donald Campbell, John Cobb, Ab Jenkins, the Burke family, the Latin's, the Lindsley's, Les Leggitt, Al Teague, Scott Guthrie or the Burkland's. But it's not just the headliners, this book will help you appreciate that the core of Bonneville is the greater land speed community who have raced on the lake all these years and you will close this book in awe at the wonderful historic collection LSR streamliners, the roadsters, the coupes, the production cars and the bikes displayed in its pages.
The impetus for this book came from Ron Main's upcoming Bonneville - A Century of Speed exhibition at the Grand National Roadster Show (Building-9) this coming January 24-26 at the Fairplex in Pomona, California.
The book which features 600 photos including the majority of the cars in the exhibition, is a fundraiser for the Salt Lay-down Project with Save the Salt, and all income from the numbered edition of just 2,000 copies goes directly to the fund. For those attending the show, there will be a very special price so be there to enjoy the exhibition, support the project and get your deluxe numbered-edition which we feel will sell-out very quickly. Hope to see you there! See a quick review of the book at: http://www.bonnevillecenturyofspeed.com/

The North American Eagle is expected to be there, if we can get sponsorship money for the trip. We're busy thrashing on stuff to clean
up the Eagle to make it pretty. I was told they are putting us in the NHRA Museum parking lot. Having never been there, I don't know if
that is a good place or not. I was also told that unload and setup is done on Thursday and show opens Friday. Wrap up is Sunday after
4 PM and loadout on Sunday night.

We are going to remove the engine and trans from the 496 Carbiliner tomorrow night. Since we are probably leaving the car on the west coast, we will start the engine freshening procedure while Eric is working on the wing interface fairings. Sssssshhh. Don't tell anybody there is no engine in the car when you see it at the show.

The City of Burbank 2.0 will be there and we have made arrangements to have the original engine that set the records in1952 on display with the car. The expense to get the car and ourselves to California is coming from our pockets and is actually more than getting it to the Salt Flats. That said, we made a commitment and we will do our best to honor it. If money gets raised to save the salt, thats a good thing. If the idea causes anyone to contribute directly that's a good thing too. I can only imagine 80 to 100 car owners asking for travel money from the promoters @ 4k each. For the west coast guys its not a big deal. When you are more than 2000 miles away it becomes a very big deal.
We are actively seeking help from anyone interested in being a patron but at the end of the day we may only have ourselves.
It's foolish to be mad at reality.

Thanks to the good graces of Larry Fisher of the Wally Parks NHRA Museum the Bonneville 200 MPH Club will have our winter meeting at 9:00 AM, Saturday January 25th. The meeting will be held in the Hall of Champions, turn left at the entrance desk. The meeting is open to all 200 MPH Club members who are at the GNRS. The agenda is general business and setting schedules for 2014 Club events.

The Club will also have a booth at the show near the rear entrance door. I have been helping Ron Main and we feel that this will be a fantastic show for Save the Salt and LSR in general. Believe it or not, there are still many people who do not know of LSR. This is your chance to educate the public.
