Just for starters, a ton is 2,000 pounds, not 2 pounds.  Wayno

Jon, someone called saltgremlin made a long post about how to fix the salt. He began his post saying Save the Salt was doing nothing to fix things. He then proceded to blame the Racers vehicles for the salt decline. Suggested that all racers bring 100lbs of salt as part of their entry fee, not a bad idea. I guess when Elmo called him on his faulty math he deleted the whole post.

Yes, and I almost saved it. This fellow was saying that we took 157,500 tons of salt out of Bonneville on our tires from 1949 to 1970 and another 250,000 tons until now. He was only off by a factor of 1,000. He was basing this on 35 pounds per vehicle. Oh well, back to the race car.  :-D Wayno

I didn't get to read the post so don't know what was all said but 35 lbs. per vehicle is fairly realistic from my experience (not on the tires but under the vehicle).

Back in the 90's the salt was not near as hard as now and I know from how my vehicle was down on the springs that I might of had a couple hundred lbs. a couple times.  Unfortunately it came off at the car wash in town and at home.  I'd planned on using the service that is now at the end of the road this year, but when we left I didn't see it in action.   I will use it in the future if it is available,

All the salt we can recover goes back.  Plus, if you wash off at the truck stop at the end of the entrance road the salt from the brine stays at Bonneville.  Where else could it go?

I wasn't taking issue with the 35 pounds per vehicle. The problem I had was thinking that 315,000 pounds was somehow 157,500 tons. Wayno

Well I still didn't see the post so just have the numbers I've seen posted.  If the above where the numbers then it looks like a misplaced decimal point is the culprit.   315,000/2000 = 157.5 tons.  157.5 tons isn't 157,500 tons but still not great.  I'm going to try and do better on my part  :-),
