I find myself speechless with tears rolling down my cheeks.....................  Jack was a one-off kind of guy.  They broke the mold after he was born, much to the dismay of those of us who learned from the likes of him to speak your mind if it is what you believe to be the truth........... no matter WHO it might offend.
My condolences to his family and friends.
Jack Dolan, you were ONE HELL OF A MAN and I salute you for you humor, integrity, and balls.
May you Rest In Peace.                                                                Bob

No movie about Jack in OUR future.

Even Anthony Hopkins could do him justice.

I made a mistake.

Anthony Hopkins COULD NOT DO HIM justice.

A necessary clarification.

Never met the man.  But I felt as if I knew him after reading his posts for a while.  I'd heard he was in bad health, and was hoping, selflessly, that he would recover and share his views with us again.  I guess that didn't happen.  But I still feel a warmth for his wit and wisdom at the mention of his name.

I used to enjoy Jack's posts. He never made it easy. You had to think if you were to understand what he was saying but the information he doled out was priceless. I've missed those posts and always hoped he'd return to posting.

My condolences to his family and all those who were lucky enough to know him. He will be missed.

What with the sad news of the passing of Captian Billy Hodges, this is indeed tough to take.

To me, a mentor. Jack taught us all by leading, Jack directed-we found the answers. I have too many stories to account for here. Ask me sometime.

Just one for now. When SCTA started to incorporate a computer system for daily results Jack placed wife Sammi and Joanie in a room at the Western Motel. A legal pad and two #2 pencils, the results were done and posted in each diner and casino window before 2 AM each morning. I did the running around so I know. These results were accurate and days before the "official" results were completed.

I have many more Jack stories, ask me sometime, bring wine.

As other have posted, I never met JackD. When I joined this site back in 2009 I always looked forward to his posts as they ALWAYS made you think.
Whenever I see his name, I immediately think of this post from the Australian Belly Tank - Spirit of Sunshine thread:

oh , while I'm here ...more

here they are again with a photo taken in September 06

This has to be my all time favorite set of pictures that portray the true and lasting spirit of LSR better than can ever be explained to anybody else.
This is the type of shot that should be made into a brass plaque for a suitable award for the few that might deserve it.

And these are my sentiments as well.....Thanks, PJ

I just heard from Sami Dolan.  I'm so sorry to hear of Jack's passing.  He was responsible for our team's success when we won the points championship at El Mirage in the late '80s.  He was a great engine builder and really got the Ford Escort going.  One of his words of wisdom I fondly remember was, "The easiest component to replace in a car is the DRIVER." I was proof of that.

Jack's Celebration of life is Sat. Nov. 2 at JBA Speed Shop in Kearny Mesa, San Diego. 5675 Kearny Villa Rd 92123. There will be info. in his obituary sometime this week.
She didn't give a time, but I will post it when I know.

Never met Mr. Dolan, as I am an LSR noob. However, I did talk to him briefly. I had posted a question here
a few years ago, and he pm'd me, asking me to call if he could be of any help. Glad I took him up on his
offer.

Godspeed Jack.

I had known Jack for a little while before he drug me and my Honda mt125 up to El Mirage for my very first land speed race..... We left San Diego very late at night and I remember seeing the lakebed for the first time as the sun came over the horizon.... I still have a piece of Earls hose fitting Jack handed me as we cleaned up debris from a car crash that day..... Later that day I remember pulling into a little restaurant just off the lakebed on El Mirage road, I watched through the windshield of Jacks van as he used the payphone to make a call (funny to me cuz Jack worked for the phone company) I felt awkward at 24years old to console a grown man as he cried when the phone call reveled his good friend Pete Dean died from the crash we cleaned up that day... I felt our friendship was stronger and had depth from that day onward.... I valued Jacks opinion and recommendations even if they weren't what I wanted to hear... I saw Jack as a thorough thinker.... I saw Jack as a father, husband, and a family man, a good man....
Wendy, I'm sure Jack and Doc are thrashing over some crazy ideas right now, and I can just here Vesco kidding "what the heck took you so long to get here Jack?"... I used "Heck" because I never heard Don or Jack curse, ever....
My prayers are with Sami and the kids.... and in my prayers I will have a discussion with Jack and promise to see him again... Hopefully just not very soon....
