I think Mike is good to go with the Shootout. Date changes were made but unless mother nature intervenes, I think the Shootout is a good even with the govt. shutdown

. . . and the weather nearby this week is not looking good.

Maybe we should invite our wonderful elected reps to a tea party to help them celebrate.

Posted from the front page of the SCTA web site:

The Oct El Mirage event is still going ahead. However we have some hurdles to navigate. The lakebed is currently closed due to the government shutdown. We are working on alternatives that will still allow us to race as planned. If we do have to cancel, the decision will be made at the latest Thurs 17th October, and will be posted on the SCTA web site. Club Presidents will also be notified.

I have been patiently waiting to hear something.... I thought there may be some top secret back entrance nobody wanted to discuss on the internet with plans to do a sneak attack if the gate was still locked.

As has been mentioned before, pull a stunt like that and watch what happens to future permits. I don't think that would turn out well.  Wayno

Good odds that's why a lot of them eventually stopped counting heads and started charging by the "carload".  Not that I ever had reason to note any change in policy :-D

Yeah, kind of like getting in the trunk of the car going to the drive in theater when we were kids!!

What is it about that activity that made it such a vital part of our consciousness back in the early 1950's? My friend's grandmother owned the land the drive-in sat on. He had a permanent free pass, he could just drive a carload of friends in. But there was a back gate into her pasture, and we'd wait 'til it was really dark, and we'd sneak in the back gate.
Nostalgia isn't what it used to be.
